Rust under Landcruiser doors

Hi All, We have a 2004 Landcruiser
Kakadu It has metal scuff plates Which the bottom of the door is rubbing on and causing rust spots as we brought the car second hand i don't know if they came with these plates or were added later on should we take them out and if so what will be underneith Thanks in advance for your help Cheers Sue
