Perth to Karratha (Inland Road)

Greetings to all,
Thinking of doing this in April next year. I have about 6 days to get there. What should I see, what should I miss and wheres the good "freebie"
camp spots.

Hi Mick,
don't mean to state the obvious but avoid driving at night, especially as you get further north. Lots of cattle on the roads from about Auski onwards.
A stopover in Karijini is worthwhile, even if its only a day, go see Fern and
Circular Pool.
I've never had the luxury of doing that trip over 6 days so we just used the truckies rest areas. There are plenty of these along the way but they are quite basic.

Not so much a freebie
campsite, but
Cue's Queen of the Murchison B&B is a very comfy old hotel that has been refurbished @$1m a few years ago.
Cue is a long first day drive out of
Perth.
Ninghan station just south of
Paynes Find is a much shorter first day, but the
homestead and
camp area is a few kms off the highway. It wouldn't be free, but you get showers/
toilets etc and a nice
hill to walk up in the morning.
I agree re a stopover at Karajini - essential if you are in the area and have time.

Also, there's always the stopover I think from memory, just near the Karijini turn off, on the right at the top of a
lookout over the Great Northern Highway, but before Auski.
Nice view from up there, and you can watch all the traffic coming up and down the highway.
Have stayed there overnight 2 or 3 times over the years, although not for a few years now..... Hope it hasn't changed.
