We were staying at Coward Springs (Beautiful Place) a few days ago and were woken up by someone packing up there camp and starting a rattly diesel at 4.00am.

Personally I wouldn't do it , I just thought it was a bit inconsiderate to all the other campers , canvas doesn't provide a great lot of sound suppression. It's hard to get back to sleep once you have been woken up.

If I was going to get a really early start I would camp alone away from others.
Just my thoughts what do you other campers think is a reasonable time.

Cheers Scoof . :-)

G/Day Scoof

Some people don't give a Rats Arse about other Campers, you see and hear of it all the time, I don't mind if they do it with a minimum of fuss, but some can't help them selves it's got to be a epic departure with a lot of noise, I personally try to depart a site nice and quitely, I even like to leave the Head Lights off so I don't make it like day light, you can't help a diesel rattling as long as they don't leave it running for a long time while they stuff around.

Cheers

That Van Park at Yamba has changed hands, the new owners will be onsite in September, the current owners had to do major modifications to their amenities and replace the old Septic System with a new Sewerage System, it doesen't pay to stuff around with this OLD PLUMBER. LOL LOL

We also had the same at William Creek we made the mistake of camping right next to the shed that the bus pulled up next to.To load and Unload all the swags for the back packers.

I don't know what you thought of the amenities but we didn't think much of them at all.
Not just me winging we had 14 in our group and we all had cold showers and it was filthy my daughter took photo's of the showers as she had never used such grotty shower and we have been to a lot ofplaces.

We all had a laugh when we read the sign that between 8 and 10 it was closed for cleaning because it looked as if it had never been done.
I know it has been catering for a huge influx of people but if it there was some ware else to go it would of been empty after you sighted the toilets and showers..
The Pub was great and so was the meals at the Pub.

Lucky you got a shower - on July 8 William Creek Camp ground toilets blocked and showers cold. On July 11 toilets still blocked and showers still cold.

Thankfully there is plenty of wide open places to camp around William Creek and they are all for free!!!

like they say there are two types of people in the world , those that absolutely don't give a rats about anybody or any thing in the world but themselves and then there are the rest of us .
It does amaze me though when this happens ,we go away to relax and get back to the basics yet we cant bear another hour or two so we bolt back to the grind.
But maybe they got an urgent phone call and had to bolt !
Anyway happy camping.

If I have to leave early, I make sure that everything possible is packed the night before. We then have plastic plates etc for our cereal for breakfast, so there is nothing to set up or pack up for breakfast. Takes longer than normal to get going as we are as quiet as possible. Only start the vehicle when we are ready to drive out, and only with the parkers on.

But leaving so early is rare for us. If we are on a schedule we try to use a motel, so we have even less to pack up on departure, so disturbing less people.

I don't like leaving before sunrise, or travelling at twilight and sunset; too great a risk of hitting roos or cattle on the road. So often, we are the last ones out of a morning during travels.

Hi Fred ,
We also don't like to travel before sun rise for the same reasons , I think sun rise is OK to start making a little breakfast noise or packing up but 4am is a bit over the top.

Getting up any time after lunch time is OK bye me!

I don't mind a 10 am start if theres bacon eggs n beans brunch, but only on a special occasion like goin fishin.

Anything before sunup is reason to invoke the "Texas defense".

Texas Defense?
He needed killin
was a valid defense in Texas back in the good ol days!

Ohh - and another Texas quote...

"A Texans Idea of "arms control" is being able to hit the bulls eye 9 outta 10 with your colt peacemaker".

Strangely I never have problems with early morning noisy neighbors when I camp - well not more than once after I gets thru "splainin the rules" - anyway! ;o)

Cheers

Scoof, your post really resonated with me. I was at Wilpena recently and someone nearby insisted on continuously slamming their car doors shut at around 4am as they packed up. I was tempted to get up and give them a blast but that would have woken more people. Small tour groups often seem to be persistent offenders

Other posters have summed it up well: It's about consideration for other campers and taking some care to minimise noise if you leave early morning. Even if they wake you, it's easy to tell if someone is making an effort to minimise noise.

Around 7am is probably a reasonable time to depart normally although even then care in what noise you make shows consideration for others. Sometimes I've left at 4am - 5am but apart from starting my fourbie and idling away, I've virtually made no noise as I packed up.

A few comments mentioned backpackers.
Having worked in various jobs in various places across the top half of Australia for the last 20 years a few facts have become clear.
Overseas bakpackers are the dirtiest, rudest campers you will come across.
They have no regard for our beautiful country, will quite willingly discard their rubbish anywhere they like, this includes toilet paper ( after they've used the nearest bush as a toilet) .
The quickest way to find backpackers in most towns is to look for shopping trolleys in the streets, they're too lazy to carry their shopping home.
As for their manners, don't forget they're in Australia to have a good time not to be considerate of other campers.
Picking them up in their broken down Falcon station wagons from the side of the road in some desolate area in the middle of summer will most likely earn you a mouthful of abuse for taking too long to get there.

As for them waking everybody up at unreasonable hours, why would they care, they're only here for a few weeks then back off to their rich daddies in Europe or wherever.

while it obviously sounds inconsiderate in Scoofs case above, when travelling with a large family we like to travel in the early hours and get a few K's up while kids snooze so generally leave early.
Unfortunately it simply isnt practical to pack up camp the day before and move 100 meters away, it just wastes a day.
While every effort is made to be quiet, some peoples tolerance of noise is less than others.
Noisy parties and drunk people are one thing, campers legitimately going about their business is something else.

Gday,
There are no rules.....all depends on the situation.....they might have had to leave in a hurry?....just understand everyone is different, One persons early, is another persons sleep in.
One persons early night is another persons late.......
Same with noise......my old mans just got hearing aids!!!!! Finally...he knows how bloody noisy he is.
Its not a matter of, if they fit in with your camp ettiquite or not but more of a matter of, are you tollerant enough to put up with it, and not let it bother you?
I hate camping near others, but were forced to last weekend at Dalhousie.
We usually sit around the fire telling jokes till early, hours knocking back a few beers with the music going. But being we were wedged in with a mob of city dwellers out on there Great Australian Safari with 300 others we decided a small fire, no music, cleaner jokes and an earlier night was probably more considerate.
Then the knob next door ( like about 2m away because he was scared of friggin dingos or something) started to snore. Now Ive been known to let a few Zzzzs go at times but this was bloody ridiculous! Sounded like a bogged D9.
If you snored that bad, wouldnt you try to move away a bit? Then in the morning is his screaming bloody kids!!! His Mrs could talk underwater with a mouth full of marbles, but didnt stop the kids fighting, just spoke louder so she could be heared over the top of them!
After breaky my kids went down to the spring for a dip while I packed the camp (one night was enough!). I had turned the music on and cracked a beer once I was finnished......man did I get dirty looks! Its alright to yell and scream and show no respect for others, but crack a beer before lunch!!! Shock horror!
We are probably those campers most people look at and think " what a rough looking mob" and avoid us.....but if the truth be know we are probably more tollerant and considerate than half of these bed by 7.00pm and up by 6.00am campers who winge about anyone enjoying themselves?
Hahahaha thats my bitch....LOL
This is were we spent the next couple of nights...CheersImage Could Not Be Found

From my experience the noisier the car and the squeakier the van legs the earlier they pack up in the morning. I think it must be they are so busy getting there they don't do any maintenance.
