Lane Cove is good 10 min walk to either train or bus and if you are old enough cheap to get to town 20 mins usually.

Get it at the Park office They never asked me to show the card.

A seniors card or a seniors health card will do if you havent got a pension card.

Is 1 k to the train station and a tiny bit more to the bus.

A seniors all day gets you on the buses trains and ferries for $2.50.
Buses every 7 mins all day

Normally the cheapest ferry is $10.

A red bus city tour is $38 hop on hop off where you like Add in a blue bus tour to Bondi and the Gap etc another $28 can be used over several days as well.
Both good trips for the money.

You can however use your $2.50 ticket to go to all the same places if you can work out the route numbers.
Only place we had to show card was at the Zoo but only saved a few dollars anyway.
Used the $2.50 ticket to get over and back on the ferry.

Hi, We usually stay at Emu Plains at Penrith, it is only about 50ks out and the station is right near the park, ( will be there early sept), nice park , we also have stopped at Vineyard but need a taxi to station and Durall , bus at gate to station, all quite good parks .
Cheers Des.

Kiwi Kia,
Sydney is a big place, where abouts do you need to go and or get to?

I know most parks around, good bad and indifferent.
With a bit more info, I can help you out.

If you don't want to post too much info, email me

Thanks Brian, We are just doing the tourist thing, nothing special. My last visit to Sydney was over 30 years ago. We will get a transport pass and do a bit of riding around and exploring for a few days. Spending a month touring NSW.

Kiwi Kia,

We recently stayed at Narrabeen and Lance Cove.

Narrabeen is really nice, on the lake and close to shops and public transport.

Lane Cove is more a bush setting, close to major shopping centres and public transport BUT right under the flight path. Planes start at 6am and go right through to 11pm.

We counted 14 in a 30 minute period one day.

There is also Parklea (nr Seven Hills and Blacktown) and one somewhere near Sans Souci as well as the one at Emu Plains.

Cheers,

Cruiser

Kiwi,

No problems.

I used to work on aircraft but an aircraft every 2 min on average for 17 hrs a day was a bit much for me.

I know ya not there all the time, but we were woken up at 6.05am everyday by the first aircraft and could not get to sleep of a night till after 11pm

We found ourselves turning the volume of the TV up and down all the time so next time I will pick a different park.

Enjoy your stay.

Cheers,

Cruiser

We were there for two weeks and got pretty used to them.

We just put the air on and went to sleep.

The advantage is its only 14k to town.

I have to wave the flag for Lane Cove park too. It's a beautiful setting and very peaceful, (except the planes - but they change the flight paths regularly) and only 12km from the city. And the amenities are some of the best we've experienced.
It's won awards for eco-tourism too, and is really well run.
Cheers

Another vote for Lane Cove.
Stay away from Emu Plains they have showers that are controlled by a sensor in shower wall, you get 5 mins of water then shower cuts out and you cant get it to reset for another 5 mins---bad luck if your all soaped up when water cuts out.
I only stayed their once and that was because we were having annexe made nearby. Never again.

Hi, Just a comment on Emu Plains showers , the timed showers are only in the new evvironmental amenities block, the older amenities ( still clean and tidy)have normal showers which you can stay as long or as short as you like.
It is about 55 mins by train but plenty to see on the way .
Cheers Des.

Thanks Des, Looks like there are some games on in Sydney about the time that we will be there so I will make that my #2 choice if Lane Cove is full.

If you are only staying for a short time, look at the St Ives Showground; round the back. Amenities are basic but the last price I heard was $10 a night.
