Hi guys
First time posting here so go easy on me! Been reading threads here for a long time and have always found it a really useful site.
Getting a new car later this year and thinking of heading down to
Adelaide at Christmas time and then across to
Melbourne and back up to
Sydney. Have found a few threads about the "quickest" way to get to
Adelaide form
Sydney but I was just wondering if anyone had some thoughts on the nicest/most scenic route to take?
Happy to take it easy and do the trip over a few days. I know a few people have suggested following the Murray which sounds great. One other question I had was in regards to Fuel. The new car runs on premium unleaded and was wondering what the availability would be like if I took the roads less travelled?
Cheers
Brad

Mate,
Done that trip many times, when living in
Sydney.
Quickest way for us was down through Wagga to
Balranald roadhouse, turn left there and down through Tooleybuc,
Ouyen,
Murray Bridge to
Adelaide. We were going to Southern Suburbs, so may be quicker through
Mildura if going to northern area.
Best trip we did was over five days over Xmas holidays to
Kiandra, The
Grampians (2 days), Mt Gambier,
Adelaide.
Cheers
Shawn

Following the Murray sounds nice! On the way back to
Melbourne you could go via Coorong/
Limestone Coast/Mt Gambier, or along the Western and see the
Grampians, up to
the Pyrenees (how much time do you have?) and in via
Ballarat... or there is always the Great Ocean Road- so many options!
As to the premium unleaded, I haven't driven from
Sydney, but I have driven from
Brisbane to
Adelaide via
Singleton and inland from there and it was never a problem finding premium unleaded for my
old car. It is pretty much everywhere- I don't think it will be an issue!

Thanks guys. This info is really handy.
We have 2 weeks from the time we leave
Sydney. Will probably leave
Sydney around the 20/21 December to be in
Adelaide by 24th Dec. Stay in
Adelaide for a few days and then head over to
Melbourne for NY's. Spend a couple of days there and then back up to
Sydney.
Definetely want to do the Great Ocean Rd athough the other options sound great too. Decisions, decisions...

I once asked a truckie for the best way to get to
Adelaide from
Sydney.
All he said was "Via Kingsford Smith Airport" !! End of conversation.
