howdy,
my lemon news..... errr sorry "colorado",
Driving home from work and could only just hear something...thinking hmm could the radio turned off the radio turned off the air so i could fully hear what the noice is and it seems to be coming from the gearbox area like a softish grinding noice bit like a cement mixer from a long distance.. put my foot down and it gets louder and then goes back down its for sure coming from the gearbox just wondering if that is the sure
sign that its all over... or if it could be a engine bearing ?
cheers

I had a gearbox that sounded like a baby's rattle. I had it fixed; all the bearings were shot. I could tell especially when I let the clutch out in neutral at stop.
First Thing check the oil and look for where it will escape from the rear seal. It can leak into the clutch housing too and drip out.
Older toyotas used to leak oil into the transfer case. There is a lot of info on that too. And a fix.
Then how old is the vehicle and what's the life expectancy. The gearbox may go on working with a bit of noise long after the rest of the car is dead.
And dont disccount the noise coming from the diff either.
Then get it looked at.

My old NB pajeor had the famous 5th gear bearing problem.
It sounded like that. Drove all the way from
Brisbane to
Sydney and back nursing it through before getting it fixed.

Grinding? As in metal against metal? Like a vibration when going around corners and accerlating?
Check your engine mounts are still intact.

Mate from what you have mentioned in other posts!, I would:
Go back to the dealer you purchased it from;
Park it in front of the sales office.
Take the keys and place them on the managers desk
And Quote," Fix the F@@@ thing or replace!!"
.Cheers Axle.
