We have been concerned for some time about the lack of desert flags being used in the Simpson and the very small flags sometimes used. Ian has asked that I post this to show what a desert flag should look like, if only he could work out how to fix it to the bull bar.

Hi Ruth
I'd need to fit a heavier
suspension just to carry the thing. The one I'll have fitted by the time we come out that way next month will not be of such grand proportions - only about 3 metres long .
Looking fwd to meeting you and Ian about mid Sept - I'll bring the 2/26th book with me.
I'll also MM you closer to our departure date to get information about
the desert and what we want to do.
Cheers

ROFLMAO!!!
Oh Ruth.....that is a gem:-)
I can't see the rope & tackle to be used to raise and lower the flag though.
Boy with a pole like that you could bugger off the little
orange flag and use the National Flag of Australia.
You could even mount the UHF antenna on top and have a real "wank pole".
Bill.

A little wind generator and an HF long wire aerial would go
well on that pole :-))

Hello Ruth, that's a beauty and some good uses for it in other replies. I will be out your way next week, and bought a fibreglass one and mounted on bull bar as per normal with airline quick fit adaptors but looked at it and knew it would not last the corrugations and flexing so am using an old surf rod, the flag will be 16-1/2 foot off the ground.
Cheers

when we went to the simpson some cars had a white flag with a white 4x4 and the flag was only about 40cm above the bull bar
Its not that hard to get a old fishing rod and zip tie it to the bull bar with some flag tape (fegot the name) ,
well thats what we did a week ago.
