Hi All
I am looking at buying a 2005-2007 pajero with a diesel motor to tow my 20ft caravan which weights about 1950Kg can anyone give me any idea on fuel economy and power towing the van and without the van on.

Neighbour has the 05 model exceed DID, absolutely loves it. He has towed a 18 footer (van) full size behind and said the pulling power was brilliant. He has since added a snorkel and believes it seems to be a tad better on fuel. He loves it, its his second pajero.. sorry cant give you any fuel figures with towing but around town he is getting 13.6L per 100 (prior to snorkel), under 10 freeway driving (just). The around town figures are alot of cold starts, heaps of running around here and there with the kids with their sports, school, shopping etc And I mean alot. If Im home I have heard her come & go up to a dozen times in a day. Regards Steve M

Jeff

With a near fully laden 07 DiD automatic, towing a 1.0-1.2T camper trailer on butumen, running AT tyres @ 100km/hr over 1000km of flat running to Broken Hill recently acheived 13.7L/100km.
Needless to say worse into headwind, on hills or gravel which I encountered elsewhere.
Not towing anything and withy 3 passengers cruising on open road at 100-105km/hr, 10.0-10.6L/100km.

Can't comment on poorer aerodynamics and heavier mass of your caravan.
Diesel is approx 30% superior to petrol, even more so when towing.

Hi Jeff.
I have a 2005 manual DID.
I previously towed off road campers & fuel consumption average was11.10lt/100km.I now tow a golf outback & on my last trip the average was 13.78lt/100km.
By decreasing the speed to between 90 to 100kph, the consumption dropped to 11.75lt/100km.
I also found that towing in 4th decreased the EGT figures quite a bit.
Cheers.
Vince

A manual 2007 DiD, towing a Jayco Swan, 3 up, and all the bits and pieces that a 16 yo girl needs, 11.2 L/100km travelling on a cruise control 100KPH on the Hume with minimal winds

Travelling the Princes Highway from Melbourne to Sydney, 12.4 L/100km

Around the outer suburbs of Melbourne, average about 10.0 L/100 km (best 9.3, worst 10.4)

Apparently,

From what i hear... The pajero is possibly the best med size 4wd for fuel consumption & power in the diesel. Should have no worries. They also give a lot more comforts in the cab than their competitors also.

'07 Auto unladen I get 9.5 l/100km from Pennant Hills to Penrith on M2/M7/M5 doing the actual speed limit 100/110 (speedo indicates 110/120).

Driving around the hilly northern suburbs with traffic lights I get 13 l/100km.
