Hi, I own a '99 2.8L diesel turbo/intercooled GU Nissan. Can anyone tell me specifically the benefits of fitting 2.5 inch straight through exhaust after the turbo. I'm told that mufflers are not necessary as turbo takes care of noise and back pressure? Does it increase power? Are there any ill effects? Would extractors/headers before the turbo be of any use?
I've searched the archives but can't find the answer could anyone who has done this help me out.

Im currently running my GQ TD42T without the muffler to see exactly that, if it makes a difference.

YES!! ITS DRONING AS HELL! Gives ya a headache after a while, did a trip to Sydney from Melb without it, and was nuts, the muffler goes back on!

Powerwise, no difference, but noisey around 1500-1800rpm.

Motsons in Qld are the place for 2.8 powerup kits.

Kev, Motsons are in Brissy, they have a Branch in Coopers Plains on Beaudesert Road. Thier prices on Koni shocks when i need a set were the best around, so I'd say they'd be quite competitive on prices for other parts as well.

You can't run extractors/headers before a turbo, as it requires a substantial cast iron manifold to bolt to. The large diameter exhaust allows the engine to "breath" easier and allow the turbo to spin up quicker as it does not have to "push" the spent gases through. Use a "straight-through" or "turbo" type muffler, only one, and dump the small resonator off the tail pipe if fitted.
