5 PSI does it make a difference - YES !!
I'm in the last throes of vehicle checks before take off and I
noticed that my Jeep tyres were at 38 - 40 PSI !! According to
the book they should be 33 PSI -
So I waited a few hours checked em again cold and lowered them to
33 PSI -
Welllllll what a difference !! Even the small section of dirt road on
the way home felt like blacktop...
I am now wondering what 25 PSI will be like on the
Arumpo Road and
Oodnadatta track ... Smooth as I would think ...
Recommended pressure for the POD is 28 PSI so I may not need to
change them all the way around ? I'm not travelling on sand anywhere
not for any distance anyway ..
Cheers

G/day Mandrake, lucky bugga,25psi,will be perfect for the ood track, smoothes out all the corrugations,if there are any, they look after that road pretty
well. Low pressures seem to ride over the stones better. Don't forget to have a look at the
Algebuckina waterhole on
Peake station,nice
camp spot, plenty of fish too. Regards Keith C

Anything to do with tyre pressures in that area look at the
Oodnadatta Pink Roadhouse web site, they have a fact sheet. Those guys have the experience, they've lived there for years

Came down
Cordillo Downs track 2 yrs ago and destroyed a tyre ( Cooper ATR ).....had let them down to 28psi....but was doing approx 90+ k/h ( towing a CT as
well )...which highlights the point of ..reduce your speed if you reduce pressures....
But say you normally run at 38psi....what pressure do you let them down to and how slow do you go ....or another way....how FAST can you go if they are let down to say 28psi ??

Hi Mandrake
Agree with Nick - did the Oodna track 3 weeks ago from
Marla to Maree - in good condition compared to other years. It is corrugated in
places but would be the best we have seen it in 10 years of travelling. Road workers were using the grader in parts. Harry is a great believer in lowing tyre pressure more rather than less, so we travelled at 25 front and 28 rear. I drove at 80-90 kph from
Oodnadatta to
William Creek and had no problems. Adam Plate at the
Pink Roadhouse at Oodna puts out a very informative sheet on tyre pressures and other useful details and hints on the track. As someone else has said contact the roadhouse, speak to Adam for info - he is very helpful.
There was a lot of traffic a few weeks ago - busy as "
Bourke Street" all heading north. We stopped overnight at
William Creek and did a flight over the northern part of Lake Eyre. A great sight lots of
water and hundreds and hundreds of pelicans on the shoreline, also many camels in groups of around 50, hard to count even at 500 feet above the ground. Have never seen
William Creek so busy.
Can't comment on the
Arumpo Road, as we haven't travelled on it since 1967!!!!
Take your time and enjoy the scenery along the track, lots to see and take in.
Enjoy
Jinki
