Ormiston Gorge was mentioned in thread 71553 as a good place to
camp -
The Parks notes suggest Tent only
camping --
Anyone know if you can get a C/T in there ?
Cheers
Steve - Thinking of amending the itinerary with 6 days to go !!

Yep - took our hardfloor CT in there several years back - as I recall the spaces are a bit squeezy and mostly on a mild slope - less than ideal but not to be ruled out it would seem.

Steve,
We could not get our CT in there as we open to the side & the only sites that would have fitted were taken. We spent the night at
Glen Helen

Mandrake,
Redbank is quieter, has spaces set up for a camper trailer and is only a little further up the road.

Gday,
As others have said, they are very tight
camping spots.
There are other spots (
free camping) around the area if your interested in
camping somewhere diferent? Two mile
waterhole, up the Finke from
Glen Helen is a nice quite spot with plenty of room or
Glen Helen if you want
toilets and showers ( and a pub!).
Cheers

We squeezed into Ormiston (very sloping site) by getting there early, so we could do the 'pound' walk starting early in the cool. Huge day area car parks, but tiny poor
camping.
Next couple of days we enjoyed at the Redbank Ridge Top (pit
toilet only). The large circle at the lower level
woodlands camp looked nice, but no bays for long rigs like ours, and
the ridge top was wonderful. There are only 8 bays up there (bollards as usual at both
woodlands and ridge top), but easily long enough for our long rig. A glorious spot.

I agree with Mother Hen. Redbank Ridge Top.
While up that way drop in and have a look at Gosse
Bluff - not far up the road.

Another vote for
camping at Redbank. Spent 5 nights there in June down in the main
camping area.
Roma Gorge is also worth driving to. A small gorge but very picturesque. The turnoff is signposted but hard to see about 5km towards Gosse
Bluff from Redbank. 8km drive up the
creek bed which is fairly easy.

If you'd like to do a few more k's
Palm Valley is much better in my opinion, like all
camp spots it pays to arrive earlier rather than later.

Hi Steve
I was there 3 weeks ago great spot hot showers gas bbq and lots of dingos at night and if you get there early you will find a spot way better than GlenHelen that place is a dust bowl and
Palm Valley is good but grab a shower early as the hot
water runs out very fast

Hmmm 2 of us with 20 foot vans were planning to
camp at Ormiston in a couple of weeks time. Will need to rethink where we can get these rigs in but really wanted to see the West MacDonell area.

We stayed at
Ellery Creek Bighole campground a couple of months ago with a 24' van. About a dozen sites that you would get into but get there early.
toilets, no showers, free gas BBQ. $3.30pp per night.
