Hi everyone, I am looking for a new van in the short term future and have come down to two choices. Firstly the Windsor Rapid and second the Expanda outback with bunks.

I have looked at other models and was wondering aside from the two mentioned what everyone else would recommend? I am looking for space like in the expanda 16.49.2 and price range. I am looking at not just quality but also resale value, warranty support etc as well. Any suggestions of similar based models?

Finally with the caravan show in Sydney coming up in a few weeks do people think its worth waiting to purchase from a dealer at the show to get a better deal or is the deals given much of a muchness??

Thanks in advance!

HI
I was at the Adelaide caravan show a couple of weeks back and some of the show specials were very good. The savings were in the thousands of dollars. I personally would wait - every dollar saved can be put to good use outfitting the van to your personal requirements.

G'day campermans,

I ve recently bought an Expanda outback 16-49-3 .
Looked at the windsor as well but after five years of fun in a Jayco Eagle we went with the brand we know. Tows well behind the Triton GLX/R .
Had a large fridge put in as they were building it. After a couple of shakedown trips I'll NEVER have one of those small bar fridge set ups again.Sacrificed a bit of bench space for it, but it was worth it.
As far as build quality mine is great. Not a loose cupboard or wobbly bit and most of all no leaks. The first trip we did in it was easily the worst three days weather wise I've ever been caravanning in. Not drop of water inside.. :),other than in the shower where it's supposed to be.
The ground clearance was a factor for me as my driveway is 'challenging' and my old eagle used to scape its tail in and out. The Expanda clears the drive with room to spare.Came with a great looking set of mags too, even the spare.

G'day
We looked at all available vans in that type of concept
We bought the Paramount Duet and apart from some minor things are quiet happy with it

I think you have your sights set a bit high as far as getting a better deal at the Sydney caravan show. It was done and dusted in April 09. I for one hope there is another one this year because Iam a real groupy on show .

We are looking too. We are doing a trip around OZ next year with the 3 little ones so want something of decent size. If we can afford the Expanda thats certainly what we will be getting. I do hear the resale value on a Jayco is excellent which appeals to us. If we dont have the money by the time we go we will probably settle on the Swan or similar as long as it has a fully enclosed annex.

We are going to hire one before we decide to buy so we can see it and live in it and see how the Jackaroo goes towing it before we go.

Went to the caravan show earlier in the year which was a huge eye opener, so much to think about and decide on!!!

Having gone from an Eagle to the Expanda, there is no comparison as far as set up goes. Last time it was out me and the 11 year old son had the pop top up,bed lids up and beds out in about three minutes ....all done! No annoying bedflies to worry about. Roll out awning takes only a minute or so more.

Dont let anyone try to tell you that the hardlid expandas are loud when it rains. Have had mine out in shocking Tassie weather over the last couple of months and when it rains you can hear it on the roof but not when you are in the bed area. Have seen a couple of posts about this 'supposed' problem on other websites forums.Probably rumours from people who have never owned or been in one.

You are right about the resale/trade in. My old Eagle was a '94 model and it had been WELL used and still managed 10,000 as a trade in.

I'm about to take off from Tassie to Queensland in my Expanda for two months of no work!! 9 more days to work. :)
