In mid September will be leaving Adelaide and visiting Canberra, would like to see the Snowy Area on the way. Question which of the 4 routes to Cooma would be the most scenic/viable in a 2 wheel drive vehicle.

1 Albury/Wodonga/ Corryong/Tumbarumba/Tumut/Kiandra/Adaminaby/Berridale/ Jindabyne/ Thredbo then to Cooma and Canberra.

2 Albury/Wodonga/ Corryong/Khancoban/Kiandra/Adaminaby/Berridale/ Jindabyne/ Thredbo then to Cooma and Canberra.

3 Albury/Wodonga/ Corryong/Khancoban/ Thredbo /Jindabyne/Berridale then to Cooma and Canberra.

4 Wagga Wagga/Tumut/Kiandra/Adaminaby/Berridale/ Jindabyne/ Thredbo then to Cooma and Canberra.

Your comments appreciated.

youve done your research well, my preference would be #1 as I just love the Tumbarumba Tumut (apple orchard country) area.

All are serviced by all weather roads, all can handle a vehicle the size of a mini bus be it Coaster or Rosa etc. which I guess is the "type" of vehicle you are talking about.

But any of those route's would be OK.

It will be cold at night still in all those areas even the days will be cool still, in fact there may still be snow on the ground in some if not most of those places so road ice should be in your thoughts driving in the early morning or nights.

Enjoy, Colin.

Tough decision Peter. The Alpine Way is all tar and no dramas for a 7m rig. You get to see the western ramparts of the main range if you strike a clear day and the view from Scammels Spur Lookout is not to be missed. Watch out for the nearby radar trap!! But the Elliot Way from Tumba to Cabramurra is also scenic though it has a gravel section along the valley of the Tumut River. How much time have you got? Enjoy.... Glenn

Thanks for your replies. As first timers will probably take the tar. Looking at 3 or 4 days to get a taste of the area.
