Going through some of my parents old Image Could Not Be Foundphoto's I found this, if my memory serves me correctly I think it was taken at the WA/
SA border back in the early fifties, maybe 51 or 52, the car I remember
well, it is the car that I learnt to drive in when I was 6 years old, I was out in the paddock with Dad who was seeding at the time and he had to move the tractor and seeder, truck and car to another paddock a few
miles away, he asked me if I thought I could drive the car behind him at which I answered "of course" I did make it and the car arrived in one piece. Arhhh the memories.
Cheers

I reckon you be right. Looks like the
sign has something about
Eucla written on it, so I'm guessing the vehicle is travelling East, and
Eucla is behind you somewhere.

Hi Roughasguts, that's what I thought, it would have been taken in 51, Mum & Dad came over to WA from SA to see what opportunities were over here, I would have been about 5yr old at the time.

Agreed, looks very much like the
limestone rock/shrub around the border WA/SA.

Hi joc45, definitely does look like the
limestone from that area. The road and surrounds is very different now of course, Dad & Mum became very friendly with the Gurneys who were at the old
Eucla at the time, we use to go back to SA every two years to catch up with family, we would spend hours at
Eucla listening the Gurneys stories, wish I could remember them now.
Cheers

Hi Deanna,
Yes, I first went thru there in 1967 (in a Mini!) on my way east. There wasn't too much bitumen there then and I wonder how the Mini cleared the rocks. Then I worked that patch 1969-72, first on the installation, then maintaining the microwave system through there. Got to know Harvey (forget his wife's name) plus the rest of the crowd at the motel there. Was out there last Nov for 3 nights before commencing the telegraph run, and one of the motel staff from 1970 was still there! We had some great memories to exchange!
cheers

The car appears to be heading East. Its around 1100 am, and its summer. Probably about 33 degrees. The car hasn't boiled yet.

Hi xxx,ha ha ha, how observant of you!!!! I went back to the photo to check what you had said and yes I would say between 11am & 12 midday, definitely a warm day and no the car was not heating up, infact I don't remember that car ever getting hot or breaking down.
I didn't even think of that but when you mentioned it I can see the evidence.
Cheers

I was out there in December 1954 (aged 8).
Thispic is on the plain about 100k north of Nullabor
Homestead.
It WAS hot (127F), and it rained too. We were racing back towards the road to avoid getting stranded and the strong tail wind was cooking the vehicles.

Peter

Hi Peter_n_Margaret, yes I can remember how hot it use to get out there, being farmers we always went over to SA after harvest which meant Jan or Feb. Did you know the people on Nullabor Station? or at least know their names, I can remember them helping us out one time and have lately been trying to remember their names but am darned if I can recall it, would appreciate it if you have it.
Cheers

Deana, I am pretty sure that they were also Gurneys.
Trevor Gurney was about the ame age as me then and he now lives at
Coorabie.
This is Nullarbor
homestead taken in 1954.
The
homestead is gone now, but the other buildings are still there.
Cheers,
Peter
