It would have a disgusting turning circle, be a real pain when turning corners.

One would have to drive it like it was a semi-trailer.

Actually you would have to drive the same as a bus as it doesnt bend in the middle like a semi and a somewhat different teqhnique is required.

There is one getting around Perth and it has rear wheel steering to help on the tight corners.

Personally,I would rather hire a decent bus

We had the pleasure of meeting members Pete and Sandra a week or so ago. They have a "proper" Humvee; ex-desert storm and still has the gunners turret in the roof.

Now THAT is a dead-set weapon of a 4x4!!!! They were just returning home to Sydney after doing an extended trip out through the wilds of WA.

It'd be a great vehicle to have at the head of a convoy going through dense bushland, as it would create a cleared route for all the "standard" width 4bys that were following!! LOL

Yeah it's a beast all right. You know when Pete's around with the big Chev 6.5lt Diesel! It's actually a Toyota Roachie. Up at Mulan a young local lad about 10 years old came up to Pete as we were filling up with fuel.'

"What sort of Toyota is that Mister?"

In digust Pete replied "It's not a Toyota it's a Hum-Vee".

It's a four wheel drive isn't it Mister?" "Yes" "Well it's a Toyota then. All four wheel drives are Toyotas!" and off he walks leaving Pete with a stunned look on his face and Sandy laughing madly!

Had to share that one.

(Sorry Pete)

Ive aways had a yearning for a Toyota Mega Cruiser. They lees than 200 of them in the late 90s.
Its made up from parts from other Toyota trucks and 4wds.
It has rear steer ,Landcruiser auto, difflocks with IFS and IRS.
Engine is the 15B FTE used in the Dyna and Hino Ranger.

The interior, which also uses many Landcruiser parts,is much more comfy than a Hummer

Hey Mick....wish I'd been there to see the look on Pete's face....hahahaha

But, I must correct one small detail....his Chev is "only" a 6.2 litre. It's much quieter than mine too......

They have a very imposing presence.....my kids couldn't believe their eyes as this huge thing pulled up in our driveway!!! hahaha

Yes we had a goggled eyed 14 year old here as well. Pete took him for a spin around the block which he was thrilled with. I think he'd have liked the top cannon to still be in just to complete the effect and to impress his mates lol.

G'day John,

They're 37" tyres on 16.5" rims. I can't recall the actual , precise size code though.

Cheers

Speaking of coming across one of these on a narrow track. I did just that with Pete up on Davies Plains last January. When I said his truck looked like a block of flats coming through the bush, he very subtly reminded me that they're not much wider than a 200 Cruiser...

The HumVee / H1 uses 37/12.5R16.5LT tyres.
Those other things aren't proper Hummers, they are street machines made by GM.
I tried to buy a MegaCruiser in about '02. Did not get to first base with Toyota.

Cheers,
Peter

There are a couple around Perth. They are used for weddings and school balls and cost $2,000 to hire!!
It would be cheaper to hire a bus but some poor bloke may be in trouble with his new wife!!!
