Allo all!

Rang Toyota the other day and they quoted me a $1000 for one RV wheel!

What a crime!

Currently only have one spare

Have been looking at ROH Black Track steel wheels. So far been quoted $130 a wheel - buy 6 all round for $780. A bargain i say! Has anyone had issues with these rims?

However these wheels, for 5 stud pattern only come in 16x8. A RV wheel is 16x7. Also ROH have mentioned the offset/backspacing is 0p. Currently running 265/75R16 tyres
Having done some research some 79 series have similar aftermarket rims.
But have noticed the backspacing is different to OE. Does this put undue strain on the vehicle, ie the wheel bolts? Steering affected? I guess the wheel will protrude further out than normal. But have a flared wheel arches already

I have done searches for RV wheel offset but there are conflicting results and confusing me! On the inside of RV rim it states -A17? Is this the offset/backspace? And are split rims the same offset?

cheers

Matthew

Matthew,
All of the Toyota 5 stud live axle rims have an offset of 0.

Therefore the backspacing will be different for the 5.5" 6.5" 7" and 8" rim widths.

This may be where the confusion rises.

There's a set of RV rims for sale here: RV Rims

I think the long sentence in the description is alluding to the idea there are 4 RV alloy wheels for sale with bald Cooper STT tyres currently fitted to them.

Whoops, should have cross checked first. They are in Sydney and you are in the Pilbara.

But at the price difference compared to Toyota he's still got a lot left for transport costs!

I have used ROH Trak 2 Steel rims for many years without any issues.

You say they only come in 16x8??
Is this for the black ones only? as I have used white 16x7 for many years and was just quoted $110.00 per wheel so they are still available.

Can't answer the offset issue but the wheels supplied to me don't protrude past the body work would suggest that any 4wd tyre fitter worth his salt will be able to supply the correct offset without any difficulty.

Allo John

There other sizes available but I would prefer black and the only 5 stud in black is 16x8. The other black wheels are 16x7 and only 6 stud. Well that's what ROH told me.

Thank you

Allo Geoff,

I did see that ebay sale for RV rims but it's a fair way from home! A pity

LOL!

Looking back at past 4x4 Magazine issues on the cover is a Cruiser with aftermarket rims (looks to be a workmate model). They look similar to the ROH wheels. Maybe there could be no issues fitting them on after all!

Your info has been greatly appreciated

cheers,

Matthew,
There are heaps of wheels that fit the 79series. Any rigid axle 5 stud Landcruiser wheel will fit (IFS will not).
ROH and Speedy make 16x7 and 16x8 at zero offset that fit.
Toyota had their 105series 16x8 Royale and Snowy mags from the early 105series Landcruisers.
They also had 16x6.5 tubeless rims from the RV 105series.
And 16x6 and 16x5.5 split rims.

Now your wheels will currently have the Japanese made mag wheel nuts. These nuts don't fit any of the above, so factor in a set of new standard wheel nuts with your purchase.

Cheapest and easiest solution to your problem is to keep what you've got and carry a split rim with 750R16 tyre as your second spare. It is the same diameter as your 265/75R16.

Hi Phil G,
Can you email me at ctaplin@chariot.net.au as I would like to ask you a few questions about both your canopy and rim sizes, wheel offsets etc, as I have seen your responses when doing various forum searches.

Thanks,
Chris
