It's not easy to decide what to get. I need 6 new tyres for the prado. Best prices (in darwin) so far I have for fitted and balanced 265/65/R17's...
Yokohama Geolander AT $325
BFG AT KO $328
Bridgestone D694 LT $305
Michelin LTX AT2 $375
Goodyear Wrangler S/Armour $350
AT3 Wrangler $369
Toyo Open Country AT $345 (didn't like the look of them, appear very soft)

I intend to ring a couple of other dealers, but these seem like they are the best prices I am going to get.

I am leaning towards the D694 or the BFG AT KO,
constructive comments welcome.
regards,
Fred B

Fred,
Thought you may like to read the write up to a similar question in the Bushtracker Caravan forum.
Seems the D694 or BFG AT KO or Silent Armor tyres are the best for durability.

fred Try Maxxis Bravos 753 Light Truck - They look like they might do well and the price should be around $280. Cheers Tony

Hi Fred
I got 694s not in lt for Prado Grande at $254 at Kmart includes rotation and balance each 10,000 klms.
Got the 694s instead of LT as they give a better ride and I don,t off road much.
Kmart will match any price.
Regards
Ted

Hi Fred. I purchased BFG's two weeks ago and paid $320 Ea in Wollongong area. We are normally on par with Sydney prices so your Darwin price doesn't sound to bad. Regards, Bob.

I bought 4 BFG ATs 265x75x16 in Feb this year, $310, prices have gone up but we have gained a lot on the aussie dollar since then so the prices should at least stablise.. $320 is a good price i reckon... Michael

Thanks to all for their response. Managed to arm wrestle the price down a little on the other tyres; got the D694 down to $305 from $318 from one dealer. The worst price was $354 down to $325. None of them would come down below the $318 except Bob Jane T mart for the D694. One Kmart dealer offered to meet the price, but rang back to say he couldn't get the tyres... he couldn't provide a delivery date. All prices (after arm wrestle) included fit & balancing. Most wanted $$$ + fit and balance. Most dealers want $8 per tyre (council by-law) to dispose of your old tyres.

So the winner is..
Bob Jane T Mart Casuarina 6x$305 for the D694 @ 0800 tomorrow, Wed. OUCH...! Rego due Friday $618.75 ... Ouch..! x2
(painful) regards,
Fred B

Just went and seen my regular tyre bloke the other day. I am after LT265/70R17's for my prado. He pushes the Coopers but I asked about the Pirelli Scorpion ATR that have been getting some good writeups on here.

Pirellis - he rang someone to get a price - $380 each fitted.

He say's "How about the Coopers? They should be a bit cheaper"

So I asks' "How much for the Cooper ATR out of interest?", as that is what I am replacing...

He looks in the book - $375 each fitted.

I think he has some pencil sharpening to do!

Cheers
Muddy
