Best Off Road, Affordable Storage Drawers
Nearly a year ago I put up a thread here offering people a copy of some Tilley Lamp instuctions I had come across.
Again, tonight (and this happens at leat once a fortnight) I received an email requesting them. It's pretty simple task to just hit reply and attach a copy of the instrfuctions that I had scanned.
Some of the requests are from Europe. No wonder it is called the World Wide Web.
Jim.

No Karen & Geoff, that is just an amazing coincidence that one of the things he does sell is shown in a post about something he does not sell !

Um, it is like this.
One. I advertise on this site which helps to contribute to keep it free for you Ken.
Two. I've been here for over five years and like to contribute and discuss things.
Three. This is a wonderful site and I was just making that point.
Jim.

Yes - its an interesting statistic that around 50% of all
forum activity is people reading archived posts. Whilst people can no longer actively respond to these posts (they are locked when archived) the information is still read widely and must be of some use to some! One of the big reasons why we are so adamant about a code of behaviour. There is long life in these posts (
well beyond when they seemingly slip off the first page!!). Enjoy, MM

And that was the point I was trying to make.
From a business perspective we get numerous calls from people who find us via Exploroz when searching the Net.
From a personal perspective, I love this place for the interaction and exchange of information.
I strongly recommend this site to many business colleagues as it is a very cost effective advertising medium. The fact that a simple post about Tilley Lamp Instructions generates such interest only confirms my belief in the capacity of this Site to have impact.
Jim.

A long time ago, I built a web page devoted to my 4WD and
camping adventures and posted links on EO, in particular in relation to
my home made drawer/slide unit. A couple of years ago I built another page and loaded it in the same address for my business, yet my stats still to this day indicate that almost ALL of my traffic comes via ExplorOz! The archives really do work!
And Jim's post reflects what Aussies are really like...... it's not too much bother to help others! Yet someone comes along and accuses him of self promotion....... Who gives a tinkers cuss if he self promotes, AFAIK and AFAIC that's an advantage of being an advertiser on the site!
Good on ya Jim!!
Regards
Brian

Good on you Jim, I support the positive comments above made about you & your business.
It's your advertising money and members
membership money that keeps the sight alive financially.
It's contributors, both members & non members that make the sight interesting and varied.
Negative, sour grape type comments contribute nothing & achieve nothing. Hoo Roo

Oh golly. I see this
forum has not changed after all these years and why we stopped being a member years ago. It is impossible to have a joke with someone on here STILL! My little comment right at the start was not meant as negative, but everyone seems to jump on their band wagon and get so defensive. Jim it was not meant to be nasty or mean, but obviously you guys dont know me like others do on here.
I give up, this
forum is still the same as it was 7 years ago when I let our
membership laps. Not to worry, but sorry if you took it the wrong way. I have come to the conclusion it is just best to read this
forum and be invissable.

Umm I didn't think my comment was negative either, more an observation of an astute bit of business. Nowhere did I make any criticism and it is interesting that all the Jim clan jump on, rushing to defend him against some perceived slight.
Personally I couldn't give a rat's about ANY self promoters, it is not my site.
Interesting that reading the comments, like me, nobody actually disagrees that it is self promotion but very quick to defend a practice that I did not actually criticise.
By the way, the
Forum is free because the owners chose to make it so, not because Jim choses to advertise here.

I guess the answer to your question then Karen is yes, it is a sales post(which has been paid for) thanks for pointing this out to us, and thanks for your feedback. Writing posts as a form of communication has its drawbacks...i missed your "lol" aswell. Question back to you now please....have you found a
forum that your comfortable with yet?

Yes I have actually Andrew. There are some where we take the mickey out of each other, and dont get defensive over little things that are posted. Where we can have a laugh and a joke, and all have a lot of fun. Too many times on this
forum there are slanging matches and people having a go at each other that turns out quiet nasty, and I dont see the point in all that. Life is too short to get cranky at one another and get upset. There are more important things in life! I just think if you cant have a joke then things are pretty sad.
But anyway, thats the way it is on here. It really is a great site though, so much information on here, and there are some terrific people on here as
well.

I find a thing missing on this site, compared to others.......is a lack of emoticons !!!!
A tongue in cheek post is always followed by a smiley ( or something similar ) which takes away some of the negative thoughts some people may have towards a post..

We do need them cheeky little faces Gronk, they are good fun. And they do soften humour when you are trying to have a joke, and not be nasty. Like I said life is too short to upset people, you could wake up dead tomorrow.
Anyway, they would be good fun. I just tried to copy and paste some in this post but it wouldn't work.

Forum Moderation TeamHi Brian. Smiley faces on here would be great. I certainly wasn't out to upset anyone, but it seems like I have upset a few. Trouble always happens to find me! lol. I just love the way they all have to put their 2 bobs worth in......lol. It wans't meant to be a nasty comment. I wonder how Andrew put the smiley face on his post above.
Karen

Hiya Karen,Ken,Geoff
Its a complaint ive had for a long time,Theres just no emotion to black and white text,SMS is no different..It does not take much to make a sentence look serious.I'm sure so many times people look at a reply and think (Is he having a go at me or is he just joking)..There must be a better way to convey emotions.
I'm sure 90% of the barneys on here would not happen around a
camp fire because you can pick up straightaway where he/she is coming from..
Cheers
