Hi Everyone,
We are wanting to go up to the northern territory in the next month and are getting lots of mixed results from people. Some say it's okay to travel as the rainy season hasn't kicked in by then, some others say no way, bad time to travel. we intend to go everywhere through the NT and up around cape york area too and would love some input please.

Thank you kindly!
Aimie

Do it, go everywhere and see all you can.The NT is a great place with so much to see and do.Sure as the build up approaches it gets hot and sticky but not everyone gets to experiance it, once the storms hit, it magical and again not many southerners get to experiance it.
Some do cope better than others with the humidity and there is only one way to find out.....

I agree with Nick. We lived up there for over 6 years. Loved in all its seasons. Got a little uncomfortable in the buildup - but if you got into a pool and aircon for some of the time it was great. We did'nt like aircon all the time as it gets too dry and too cold. Also when you are locked inside with the aircon going you miss all the wet season stuff. Amazing thunder clouds, lightning and the thunder rolls etc.

Only thing with travelling once the wet begins is you can't go off road and many places are flooded in. Even parts of Kakadu gets flooded in for often week at a time.

But part of the magic of the top end is during the wet season and so many tourists miss that.

Hi Aimie,
like they say... "if you never never go.... you will never never know"
The top end is a great place to be. Everything greens up, the waterfalls start to flow... it's awesome. Don't miss out.

WE are up in Cairns at the moment, and will be for another month, There are people still heading up the Cape. A bit dry and dusty but still ok.

By November it starts to get humid as the build up begins, but its still enjoyable when sitting in a stream at the end of the day.

G'day Aimie
We're in Darwin as I write this having just come up the west coast through Kununurra. We spent a week in Katherine and a couple days In Litchfield National Park before here and plan on going into Kakadu before heading south again.

"The Build Up" has already started and we we have had 3 weeks of 36, 37 degree days. A couple of days ago we had about 8mm of rain during in a 1 hour evening shower and a couple of mm the next day an it started to get sticky. The rangers at the park, and all the locals say it has started about a month early.

We've been in darwin the last couple of days and it's been low to mid 30's and humid - a bit like bali.

We just plan our days accordingly and try and do things in the morning and spend the late afternoon in the pool with a coldie.

Having never been up this part of the world I gotta say I love it. So much to seen and do. All lot of places you can do some exploring and take a swim in a hot spring or waterhole when you get hot.

Hope it helps.
Rob

Hi Aimie L,

We are in Darwin at the moment and it is great, just pack up and head on up, the weather is warm and sticky, but a swim in the pool, and your good to go again. The build up is here but the sunsets are great.
Enjoy your trip and have fun.

Happy day's
Troy
