Can anyone tell me if the Olympic Hwy from Albury through to Cootamundra is a worthwhile option in order to avoid the road works on the Hume from Albury through to Yass? My plan is to drop back onto the Hume from Cootamundra before staying overnight in Goulburn. Thanks Heals

Heals, I have come that way twice with a van in the last year, last time end of June this year.
Do yourself a favour mate, take Olympic H'way all the way beyond Cootamundra, through Young, up to Cowra, and then across to Sydney via Blayney, Bathurst, Katoomba.
A much more scenic and adventurous drive.
If you must go via Goulbourn, go as far as Harden, then back onto the Hume, but you're going to miss a beautiful part of this country.
BTW It will be hard to go through Young and Cowra and not spend some time time there.
We found traffic was easy to cope with. Bit of local rural traffic, a few trucks, and an excellent highway, with plenty of rest areas, and little country towns with better facilities than the Hume.
IMHO do yourself a favour and do it.

Fred.

I live in the region. The olympic is more scenic but will take a lot longer to get back to Sydney. Go through the roadworks or detour along the Olympic to Wagga and back up the Sturt / Hume to Gundagai. The roadworks at Gundagai / Coolac are all but finished and not much of a drain on time anyway. - probably much of a muchness.
