Stephen,

Just a general question as to why the NO Trailer stipulation.

I am unable to make it for those dates as I have committed my 8 weeks leave around the 2010 National Gathering.

Cheers Kev

Hi Kev
I have seen some people's so called "Off Road" type trailers that just do not make it out in the bush in the remote areas that we will be travelling. If someone was to take a trailer, it must be one that is built very sturdy and able to handle real rough outback riggers. Often it is better to cruel than to be kind, and that way people will know from the start that this is no Sunday Afternoon Drive. On our last trip taking in a very small section of the Old Gunbarrel, there were 6 So Called Built Tough off road type trailers that did not make the distance and are now roadside litter, that will take decades to rust away.

Cheers

Stephen,

I don't think my Tak Shak would handle that type of trip but my purpose built box trailer would LOL

Being inconvenienced by a not fit for purpose trailer would certainly dampen the trip memories of the other who partake in the trip.

Thanks for the reply and I hope you have a trouble free trip.

Cheers Kev

We did 8 weeks in the Kimberley region just recently and unfortunately that is the reason we can't make this years gathering. But the 2010 gathering would be another "notch" in our outback belt. With a family of 5 we tow our tambo camper everywhere and never had an issue. The majority of campers on this forum know where there trailer can and cannot go. I think with your No Trailers allowed it will unforunatley put alot of us off from doing something that we all would enjoy with fellow EO members.

Hope you get the numbers you are after and have a great trip.

cheers,

Lance

Hi Lance
The no trailers is aimed at the type of trailer that would fall to pieces out there. People with quality real off road types would not be an issue.

Lance/Stephen,

I towed a Tambo Cooper across the Anne Beadell in 06 with no issues. I'd carry a spare spring though and ensure the trailer is not overloaded and that the tyres are near new.

The issues at the moment are the rapid deterioration of the tracks. I've not seen them worse than they are at present. Canning, Anne Beadell, Talawana, Sandy Blight are in shocking condition as far as corrugations are concerned and these conditions certainly take their toll on vehicles, trailers and equipment.

Am just in the process of converting some video of the Canning corrugations coming into well 33. My better half was gobsmacked at the pounding the vehicles were taking. I'll be towing the Quad next year but will have had the trailer entirely re engineered before then. Even so, I'll be avoiding the worst tracks and taking it off track. Perverse isn't it. Less wear on the vehicles off track than on these days (kills the tyres though LOL).

Navara and the Tambo on the Anne Beadell 06

Cheers Mick

Sounds like a great trip Stephen, pity we just did it last year and I'm looking at other places to leave tracks. As you know we took a Jayco Eagle Outback, friends had a Cub Spacevan and others had an Adventure Camper. I believe I wont get any argument when I say the Adventure Camper is classed as the most suited to off road, yet it was the only camper to fail with it breaking a U-Bolt.

I think it goes to show how important, Tyre Pressure, Speed and Weight are. I have seen some of the strongest looking trailers fail purely because 1 or all of these points aren't worried about. As I said to you on the phone the corrigations this side of the border have corrigations on the corrigations.

CYA next time I.m up your way or your coming through. Cheers

Hi Glenn
I hope you and Des are getting into shape for our next water venture next Easter??. LOL

The highlight for the trip is spending more time at the Aboriginal art site on the Connie Sue. I am keeping in very regular contact with Andrew at Tjukayirla Roadhouse. This site is so new a find that the Official People were not aware of it and have spent the last week out there. They have counted over 120 painting and are were amazed at the quality. The Connie Sue is a great track and can not wait to do it again.

Cheers

Stephen.

Here is some reading on the The Tropicana Joint Venture, mine, gate and airfield you went past on the Rason Lake Road.

A lot goes into them today, not like yesteryear.

Cheers
