Seems you don't need to drive all that way to see the red dust of our wonderful Outback. It's one of the very few times I've woken to find the dust right at my doorstep here in Lake Haven! A bit of an eye opener to the "indoor" types, I guess. Nostalgia for others and an impending car wash for late this afternoon!

I wonder if someone will come up with an estimate of how many millions of tons of red soil has been relocated, or lost forever.

Fred, I heard on the radio this morning , the estimate is 16,000 tons per hour blowing across NSW.
We are just about down to bedrock here in town, and there is about 10,000 tons per hour coming out of my blower vac at the moment.
And that's inside the house hahaha.

Well the
grey dust arrived in
Rathdowney about 9:00 am and the red dust hit about 10:15 am - thought I came down here to get away from the
Birdsville dust - at least it is not raining like it is in
Canberra!

On a clear day you would see Mt Lindsay and Mt Barney when looking this way!

You'd have felt right at home aye Ruth.
Pretty weird looking out across the vineyards this morning here in the Hunter Valley. My lawns needed top dressing, but I didn't expect to get it from the
Simpson Desert though.
Ah
well, nature at work I suppose.
Fred.

handy, if it's true about the topsoil hitting the ocean and making the sealife better (see post below) - then maybe, the fish will start biting in the Cooper, especially as I have just ordered a Stessl 380 Edgetracker - keep it coming then. Going to give the bass a thrill in the dam before coming out your way and then chasing the KG Whiting next March.
Fred, I've had photos from all over Australia today but I really think the worst dust is in NSW - the photos from
Newcastle and
Broken Hill - very thick and very red. Your photo shows how red it is in the Hunter. Up here it has gone to lighter collour - just heard a jet flying over so airports must be open again.
Ian is outside trying to spray paint a couple of enormous steel beams because the crane is coming to lift them up for the carport - I think the steel
grey iseverywhere but on the beams!

The Hunter Reds may be just a bit redder this year LOL
I missed seeing Dave's daks go by, I'll keep an eye out for Ian's
grey paint :-)
We've copped a bit of the inlands dust here in the past, but nothing like this ever, here on the coast, although we have seen some beauties out there.

Some time ago when a similiar situation happened and the dust ended up in the ocean the scientist predicted an increase in sealife as it increases activity in the ocean.
Heard on the radio this morning that it is caused by climate change

Kevy Rudd will fix it all up when he gets home from his latest jolly.
Even Bill Clinton thinks he's a hero.

Just goes to show, what a dill Clinton is LOL
Geez, Bill, don't tell him things like that, for he already has a bigger enough head swell about he alone steered us through the GFC Storm.
Near wet myself when I read that this morning. :)
Penny Wong & her mate Garrett will know what to do :P
A near decade of drought will cause conditions like this. ;(
