Biggest problem Mervyn is the sheer amount of lakes down their, its enough to drive you crazy lol. You will be limited to the smaller lakes as Arthurs and great lake are scarey in a 5m bost(5 foot waves). Try and obtain a copy of Greg frenchs book as he lists all tassie waters. Ross at the Essential Angler in Launceston will have a copy.Ross is also an avid fly fisher so good for advice. I usually ring him a few weeks before and get him to send me 6 of every fly he thinks I will need. Penstock, Pine tier lagoon, Little pine are some that come to mind. Lake echo has just filled for the first time in years and the fish are already patrolling the shallows. If you can afford it hire a guide for a day you will learn heaps. Also check the guys out at (sports fish tasmania forum)
Feel free to send me an mm, but I am going fishing for Bass for a week from this wednesday.
Cheers Pete

Hi Mervyn, Lake Barrington has good free camping near the rowing club but more importantly has good fishing. I pulled a few big trout out of there last year flicking a lure from the back in around the bush line. I am planning on getting a Hobie kayak soon and taking that up there. Good lake for fishing all styles, lures, bait, fly.

Hi Merv, Have a look in the "camps" 5 book. There's a few spots around the Great Lake area and Arthurs Lake. That's in the highlands. Where in Tassie will you be staying?
Have a look at this, you have to log on, but,it might help.

fishing

Good luck.

G'ay Mervyn,

Give Woods Lake a try, its below Arthurs and very pretty. I used my Kayak but was unsuccessful, however as things happen my wife decided to give the lure a flick at sunset and bagged a nice 2kg in a matter of minutes. The drive is easy but if you are game the best camping is on the other side of a very small spill way. It's a little rocky but we got in ok towing our camper. Also recommend Wayatinah Lagoon, its on the Lyell Hwy below Taraleah and about 30 km from Ouse. I was born in this place and each time we get a chance to go back to Tassy I allways drop a line their. Its a very small lake but most people tend to drive past heading to larger lakes.

Good luck, wish I was going over.
