Lake Barrington provides an interesting side trip when driving between
Cradle Mountain and the Bass Highway at
Ulverstone. The turn is at the small town of
Wilmot that leads to a camping area and boat launching ramp on the western side of the lake. The lake is formed by a
dam on the River Fourth.
The lake is part of the Tasmanian Hydro Electric Scheme but is used for other purposes including competition rowing. It is also used for boating, canoeing, fishing, water skiing and jet skis. Facilities are limited to toilets, camping area and a boat launching ramp and mooring dock.
