Dual Battery system for Holden Rodeo

We have just purchased a 2005 Holden Rodeo Dual cab and want to fit a dualbattery system to it to run a fridge and accessories. There doesn't appear to be enough space under the bonnet for an additional battery. Has anybody fitted one anywhere else.

cheers L&P

Put mine in the back to, in a battery box and installed a 200 AMP fuse on both ends, ran the cable inside some flexi conduit.

Thanks Guys
I think that the tub is the only place for the battery. The use of flexible conduit to shield the cable under the body is a great idea. How did you penetrate the tub, from underneath or through the back of the cab into the tub.

Hi LandPY,

I ran mine into the tub at the passenger's side tie-down, coming up between the cab and the tub. The hole I drilled is directly behind this tie-down.

Hope this helps...

Greg..

I ran my conduit on the side of the chassis rail and then entered the tray through a existing rubber grommet that is in the tray front right, Used a Redarc isolater which I attach to a existing barcket that is under the bonnet between the battery and master brake cylinder, I had to bend the bracket out and used the existing holes.

It is a bit of stuffing around to fit a battery under the bonnet of a rodeo but it can be done.
When I had mine I was about to fit a battery box in the tray mounted above one of the wheel arches in a style side tray on a battery tray. You can at least fit a full size battery up to 130 amp/hr in there. Under the bonnet a smaller battery had to be used due to the limited space.
If you fit it with a battery controller and anderson plugs and a cigar plug it can also be easily removed for camoping or when you sell the car.

hi
it still amazes me that with all the years they have been manufacturing 4wd's very few are still able to have a 2nd battery under the bonnet without a lot of stuffing around
so why has
"nt the message filtered back to the brains trusts in the respective companies that we want room for a 2nd battery unconditionally when will they get ther act together?????

& room for a compressor and a hot shower etc :-)

How about a 2nd accessory fuse panel as well - they would always be used.

Just kidding, but to fit what we would like to fit on a car, how much room would they have to provide? :-0

If you are handy you will always find a place to put the extras, I used to own Suzukis and fit all the gear.

Cheers Tony

My Vehicle is a Colorado near the same thing as a Rodeo. I could not fit second battery under the hood because of the ABS, so stuck it in the back in one of those arc things with a red arc isolator, works a treat

I also have a Holden Colorado Diesel and didn't even bother to research a second battery in the engine bay. There is just not enough room.

My solution was a "flyer" from ABR, who advertises on this site.

The flyer has an isolator incorporated inside the battery box and comes complete with the correct cable to run into the engine compartment to connect to the battery.

I ran the cable along the chassis and entered the tub through the dual walls behind the fuel filler. Simply a matter of removing the plastic section in the wheel arch to gain access between the inner and outer steel liners and drilling a hole through the inner one. I terminated the cable with an Anderson connector and use a patch lead to complete the connection.

The other Anderson connector in the photos is for connection of a Thumper I also have.

I have a 2000 Dual Cab Rodeo and have put a dual battery behind the rear seats. You need to ensure that the battery is sealed so no chance of fumes or leaking. Works a charm

A bit off subject but I have a 60ser L/C/ petrol/gas and because the gas converter is situated in the engine bay it is not possible to fit a decent size battery in it and because I did not want a battery in the cab I installed the battery on the draw bar of my caravan. I realised after I had done the job that I can unhitch the caravan and still have 12v available

Got a 02 Rodea. When I enquired about it was told yes it can be done,
Back R/H corner looking from the front.
First get the Air con pipes re sited then there is enough room to fit a
second batterey. Never went ahead and had it done, so not sure if it works.
The guy who told me had one put in his Rodeo.

L & P, yes it is possible as I have one installed in my 06 Rodeo. Yes you have do have move the air con bracket and a couple of other minor adjustments to some pipes but there is a commercially made battery bracket that is available. I had a local auto sparkie install it as I'm not that competant and I wanted to make sure it was done properly. The battery is not overly large but is adequate for my needs.
I can post some pictures when I get home if you like.
Cheers, Craig
