Hi
bought a camper trailer from
Sydney recently. It had a import tent on it, trouble with it is it leaks like there is no tommorow, we are returning it.
I now have the issue of replacing it, any ideas on what I can use,
The tent section has to open out to the right ( drivers side), as my hubby has done a bang up job of putting Solar panels on the trailer. and it opens to the left.
I do not want anything chinese made. I did look at the oztrail ones they are made in China but are better canvas then the one I had purchased, they open out the opposite way.
I am not nameing and shaming the one I had purchased. I had read about them in a 4wd mag with good review so surprised it leaked as it did.
Please help I want to get out and
camp more ASAP!
Thank you in advance.
PS proud of my hubbys efforts in installing solar, it is bloody sensational, and made the
camping so much easier, no running out of power

Second that, I have had two of Terry's and he will go the extra mile to do what YOU want and have it left or right.
I'm picking up my new one on Sat.
My last one

The new one is similar and both times I have had Garry at Central Coast Trailers do a custom trailer for me as
well. These two businesses work very
well together.
Just a very satisfied customer. It's a shame that you can't see the quality from the website.

Where was it leaking from? The seems or straight through the canvas?
Are you aware it can take several good drenchings for canvas to season and stop leaking?
Have a look at this site below for manufactures near you and see how much it would cost for them to make what you want. Expect sticker shock of between $3500 and $5000 depending on what you want.

Also be aware that a lot of the imported tents are set up for a trailer that is
107 cm from the ground to the top edge of the trailer, most off road trailers are around 145 cm.

From experience with even expensive camper trailers I would also have to 2nd the advice that you first make sure it has been "weathered' or "watered" in correctly or thoroughly.
Even if you do
water the canvas in properly sometimes there is still a couple of niggly leaks at the seams which can right themselves after a good rain or two followed by good drying out.
If you have done that, then sorry I can't help you with the tent replacement, it must be a pain! And if you do end up replacing it I certainly hope you have better luck with the next one!

The truth is that not all Chinese stuff is junk eg Fujitsu Air Conditioners are made in China, in their own factory with their own management and quality control. They are considered to be the best on the market.
I've used Primus Australia's Camper Tops for a number of jobs I've done for customers and for two of our own (for our personal use) Camper Trailers. Sure, they're made in China, but they are bloody good quality and modestly priced.
No Canvas top will be waterproof from day one. They all need three to five serious soakings in the rain to tighten up the stitching and make them waterproof. Don't think giving them a hosing down will do it. They need to get properly soaked.
Hope this helps.
Jim.

We have an Oztrail 9 & it leaked like a sieve until wet & dried several times,
now its fine but I still cover with a silver tarp to prevent "accidents", wet pack ups & staining. Takes 5 minutes to put on with a handful of oco straps. Maybe
your current one can be improved by wetting &/or tarping....oldbaz.
