we have a Cobb and love it, we use it at home and when we are away, however it seems that the moat and fire box area is not the easiest of things to wash up, as ash from the fire box ends up inn the moat when tipping the liquid out of the moat.
So my question is what do you do to make this job easier?
thanks
Jason

I lift the firebox out with tongs before emptying the moat.

Or
cook your meat and vegetables in one of those rubber cake tin thingys that you'll find in Mrs Jason's pots-n-pans drawer. I sit
mine (the rubber thingy) in the Cobb on a metal cake cooler I bought from Target for about $3.00 - just bend the legs with a pair of pliers so they fit into the perforations in the tray of the Cobb.

I don't put extra liquid in the moat.
I also lift out the firebox with a three pronged hook I made up out of SS welding rods and a ring.

I found washing liquid just doesn't have the power to remove the fat and grit, I use Jiff and an old washing brush and find it works a treat. When at home I just take it outside and did the same and use the hose.

Usually don't bother all that much. Give it a quick wipe out as best we can and a good clean up when we get home. I do lightly spray the moat area with oil however which helps to stop gunk sticking on the sides.
