Thinking of a visit to this Nat Park, for our once yearly Neighbour tour, 6 adults, 6 Kids.
just wanting to know if this is worth a visit, what about surrounding area. eg Cowra, Grenfell, any small towns/villages worth a visit women like history, blokes and kids like wild life. We have one family with a commodore so access needs to be considered.
Thanks Kylz

In my opinion NO. Others may beg to differ.Unless it has changed since 1978.
Grenfell note to fame is Henry Lawson. His memorial on the Young rd just over the railway line to the left.
Inlaws lived there till they passed away FIL some 10yrs ago.
Has been known as the Cemetry with lights some yrs ago when a Sydney Journo went through one evening some yrs ago.
There is other history of Ben Hall in the district IE Forbes.

Cheers,

Bob.

We have stayed in both the camping grounds in the Weddin Mtns N Pk and the main one near Ben Halls Cave - Seatons Farm - I think it is named, has some good flat camping sites, clean composting loos and a couple of shortish walks to do. Also very interesting remains of a farming venture from the Great Depression for the women who like history. From memory the dirt roads were good and you shouldnt have any problem getting a commodore there, unless of course there has been recent rain. We thought it was lovely.

The other campground - Holy Camp - is more basic and the access
road is a bit more rustic, but theres a great walk up to the escarpement for lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Should be the usual native wildlife around and wildflowers out too.

At the time we had a pop top (not off road) van and Pajero

Hope this helps you out.

Regards,

Heather

Seaton farm is interesting because whilst it was purchased in 1936 it was still in operation in 1983 when it was sold to national parks and from memory the great depression was over than.
I think some people like to live thriftly.

If tenting forget Holy Camp, the one on the east side, the place is a rock farm and sharp ones at that. I've caravaned overnight there and at the time thought it not to be for tents.

Seton's Camp on the west offers flat sites but can be incredibly dry and grass seedy in season. May not be too in bad spring.

I found Seton's Farm, the remains thereof, to be very interesting from the point of view as to how people were prepared to live. When reading the storyboard as to how Seton met and married his wife you can't help but feel that neither expected a great deal out of life.

The town of Grenfell did little for me and I apologise to Grenfellites.

Check it out and as previously suggested keep Forbes in mind as a backup destination. An attractive town with some lovely old buildings, Post Office and Town Hall. Some Bell Hall memorabilia as well.

Kylz sure it is worth a visit. Weddin Mnts is great with Seatons Farm.
Grenfell is a lovely town and well worth a visit. Has a lot of history including Henry Lawson. Grenfell town park where the old gold mine was is interesting and has stampers and things. In the region there is much to see. Gooloogong is up the road and has free hot showers and electricity. You can camp for 3 days. You have Escort Rock and Nangar NP in a round circuit day drive. Nangar NP is a great lunch stop and there are toilets, water tank, tables etc.
Happily recommend Grenfell and region

Kylz - Also in the area you have Iandra Castle at Iandra - which is an English style castle built in the middle of farming land. Built by the late 1800 Iandra is located between Greenethorpe and Young.

Cowra - Japanese Gardens - Wyangala Dam.

Bathurst - you can go for a drive around Mt Panorana - this drive at 50 or 60 kpm makes you appreciate the race much better.
