oz doc
Hi all. Turned on the uhf the other day to check on the battery, and overheard someone having what sounded like a very very 'good time'. Are there rules as to what may and may not be transmitted over uhf? Or do you think it was picking up some other electronic device? Your thoughts? cheers, doc.

Hi Oz Doc ,
There prob are rules about swearing on the radio .
I often here truckies swearing during conversation and as long as the kids or SWMBO doesn't hear, I ignore it (Often laugh at their "stories").
The bride thinks they are "misguided"and need to repent lol.
Cheers Wilko

Oh ok,
I understand now someone bumped the button during a "moment". Those things happen (not to me but some maybe) .
My pet hate is kids or big kids mucking around on the UHF. If people could get hold of them it would end in tears lol.
Regards Wilko

There are strict rules on what can be transmitted, but almost impossible to enforce (no swearing, using the emergency channels, etc). The fines are quite considerable for inappropriate use, but I have never heard of anyone being caught, charged, etc.

Sadly, scan any of the UHF channels in the metro area and you will find this sort of drivel going on. Usually morons trying to stop normal conversations by coming over the top with swearing, stupid noises, playing music, kiddie stuff, etc.
Fortunately, they don't seem to proliferate out in the country areas, probably coz they're not old enough to have a vehicle licence.
And while there are rules on this sort of behaviour, trying to enforce them is another thing.

Almost a good enough reason to keep the old 27MHz set as
well!

Timbo,
But there's no one on that band to listen to you!!!
The 27MHz band back in the 70's was just as bad then, prob worse, as there were people modifying amateur-band transceivers to work on the CB band and transmitting their drivel at 400 watts, not 5. And certain tech retailers (no names) who were making a fortune selling amateur band transcievers to anyone without a licence who had the bikkies.

I know the 27MHz used to be bad, all those people have now moved onto UHF
I think you can still pick up a 27MHz for not many $$$ - you just need one for each member of your convoy and you're laughing (can't beat the UHF for clarity though).

We switch our radio off as soon as we hit the Metro area, it is bad enough out in the bush but gets untolerable in the city.
Cheers

The person was probably on their own and just fantasising over the UHF.
Unfortunately UHF appears to attract a whole bunch of weirdos in metropolitan areas.
There is a guy in our area who spends a lot of time in transmit mode croaking like a frog, or burping. Senseless imbeciles like this make metropolitan UHF useless in all cities, but then again I don't use
mine unless I'm "out and about".
They seem to have a perverse pleasure in "coming over the top of everyone else" and must lead very narrow (and distorted) lives. A bit like graffitists.
Bill.

Bill
You took the words right out of my mouth, the Morons that dribble on the CB are more likely to be Graffitists with out a doubt, or have the same Brain capacity,
anyway getting back to the thread, I would rather hear a lot of yes yes yes than no no no no's lol lol.

Hi Oz Doc
I have tracked a couple down in the past , but basically you can't do anything legal about it.
If you have a spare radio and have it set up to transmit an annoying tone for a few minutes ,
well thats quite effective for making most change channels but its not legal.
There are other solutions , for conversations between friends which are our major use, we only ever use radios with CTCSS.
Our systems work so
well that the major problem actually comes from listening to ABC radio these days.

There used to be a couple of old codgers up near Oatlands (Tas) who would drone on to each other for hours.
Totally inappropriate radio procedure, and hogging air time, but good for a laugh on the highway while passing the area.
Could be very annoying though.
cheers

Last year while in Midland, message came over on ch1, a hungry
young lady was parked out the back of Hungry Jacks Morley, doing favours for a meal.
Never did find her.......hehehe.

I don't even bother turning my'n on around town (Sydney/Penrith) to many D/Heads talking that much crap and carrying on. I will use it if in convoy, or be on the truck channel if driving the highways/free ways but not till I'm out of town. Some of the filth that you hear. I'm no prude by any means and can swear if some one really pi##es me off but there are obviously allot of people who don't want to get a job and have nothing better to do then talk crap all day, shame they don't get a job at a call centre or something useful, or they sit there and block people from talking by having their radio/cd going just to be annoying.............Regards Steve
