Hello all. I know this is not a life or death question, but we are about to get our new van and travel around for a year or more. It has a shower/
toilet combination. But (my husband thinks this is a ridiculous concern as will most males reading this
forum)...
Where can I keep my shampoo/ toothbrush/ paste/ cleanser etc? Only a couple of items but as the shower area has no vanity or shelf, can you put one in a fibreglass shower and seal it without compromising the waterproofing? Or are there good suction cap shelves etc that don't just fall off all the time with the weight of shampoo bottles.
Thanks for your help. Not a lifechanging question but one that has been bugging me for some time. Leah

Hi Leah
I use suction ware in my bathroom at home for my shampoo etc, I usually have 2 bottles and a few other things in one. I got
mine from Howard Storage World. It's about 10-15 cms deep 8cm wide and 25cm long. I have had no issues with it falling off tiles, and they have different sizes and suction caps for different applications. Hope this helps.

hi leahsa
comparing a suction cup rack that does'nt fall off a shower wall in a house and a shower wall in a caravan
is two entirely different scenarios where you will no doubt have vibrations from rough roads and horregation compared to what ever vibration happen in your house shower
you may find you have to stick the rack onto the fibre panal with roof and gutter silastic
and even then you may have to wrap the shampoo bottle etc in a flannel in the rack to stop them moving around those are my thoughts on it for what there worth and as usual on this site someone will probably blow this theory out of the
water just trying to help

Hi Leah
When you are at Bunnings look in the bathware department, they have dispensers you can attach to your shower which you can fill with shampoo/conditioner & bath gel. This should save a bit of room. For the rest of the essentials I still keep a vanity case in my wardrobe as when you stay in a
park and want to use their facilities you only have to grab the bag and go!
Hope your travels go
well, we are about to put our house on the market so we can do the same thing.
Cheers

Do as we do,
Both My wife and I have a small personal bag we call a doby bag which has our toiletries in it .
When we use the van shower etc we take our bag in with us the same as when we use a van
park facility. We just buy the small size bottles of shampoo etc to save space and weight.

Thanks for your advice. With 6 of us in the van, I might need one of these and something in the shower. Just a bit off the topic, why do you call is a doby bag?? Just curious.

Doby bag is an old Naval name and I think it means wash. Don't know about the spelling?

We have the usual 'hang over the shower head rack' with 3 hooked suction cups holding it still so it doesnt swing all over the shower when we travel. It hasn't moved even with shampoo etc in it.

Thanks for your advice. That is pretty impressive that it hasn't moved. These things always drive me nuts cos they move but I haven't seen one with suction caps. I better get my skates on and start looking. Thanks, Leah

Hi LeahSA, I found a little mesh bag attached to a mini coat hanger which I found very good in either the pop-up shower/
toilet or in the van parks. It is about 15w x 30cm long with three pockets which held all my/our necessities. It can be hooked over the shower neck or on the hooks inside a tent ensuite.
I think I found it in either one of the dollar shops or a
camping shop for less than $10.
Sheila.

Thanks for your help. Sounds worth a try for under $10. Cheaper and less scary than screwing a shelf into the wall.

Hi Leah.
Like you we have a fibreglass shower/
toilet. I got two great suction shelves(toothbrush/paste & soap holder) from Howard storage. I brought one first and gave it a test run, I was so impressed that I went back for the toothbrush one. Had soap one fall off once but gave suction caps and wall a good clean and no problem since. We do a lot of corrugated road travel and they are holding up
well. They are not cheap from there but they do the job not like some of the cheap ones in the $2.00 shops.
With the heavier stuff Deos,Shampoo, shave cream etc.. we have a small square bucket that sits on a towel on the floor in the shower and just lift it out onto the kitchen bench and take out what we need. When we have both finished just sit it back into the shower. All my creams make-up etc. I have a separate bag in the cupboard for.
Cheers Julie

I have a $2 cheapie at home which during the process of the shower, slides down the wall to the floor which, while entertaining, is totally useless. I will go to Howards storage as you are the second person to suggest this store. Thanks for your help, Leah

Gday Leah,
Don't worry yourself over it at this early stage.......
Besides, by the time your hubby gets all the necessities in, like fishing gear, eskies, home-brew kit etc., there wont be room for luxuries like that anyway!
LOL
