Hi,

We have an outback sturt camper and want to get a boat to put on the top. Has anyone got a rack on top of their trailer, and what is the best way of going about it. If you have any pics that would be great!

Hi Bug used to have a Spirit Camper trailer with a boat rack (sory no pitures) found it was a pain tiping it to one side to put up tent. Use roof rack on tow vehicle now lot more convenient. Since sold camper.

Hi dbish,

thanks for the reply. We have a ford courier with tray & canopy so we are trying to work out the best way to go about it. We are in Broome at the moment and will be doing all the top end after the wet. When you set up your tent and the boat was still attached was it noisy with wind?

No it wasnt noisy just a nusiance. I have seen Ford Courier tray top with fiberglass canopys with boat racks which were home made & were very well made, keep looking you will probably see one eventualy in your travels. I gues i should have taken a photo.

I have an Obrien family camper trailer and it has one of the best set up for carry a boat.
doesn't interfer with the tent set up.
Wind does move the camper trailer when the boat is up but hasn't been a problem yet.
Sorry cannot attach a photo but you could go to the obrien web page.

This is the rack I built for our Tambo camper, just need to add gas struts to help lift while loaded.

Outback offer a boat rack for their Sturt (I was there on Sat).
RRP is about $1500 from memory.

We did a trip to Tassie in Feb this year with our tinnie on top of the camper trailer. After a couple of weeks, it was a pain to take off each time you wanted to set up the camper trailer. If you can get a boat rack that is easily moved out of the way so you can set up the campertrailer, I'd go for that. Otherwise, our tinnie now sits happily on the tow vehicle, where you can forget about it until you need it. Much easier!
