G'day folks

It's a great place and there's plenty of information when you get there, and online. The 4WD trip to the lookout is a must.

If I was to be facetious and respond to your question "is there anything we should not miss?", I'd say a drink of water about every 30 mins.

Have a good trip

Cheers
John

Seriously, my tip is don't go until April or May when it's a lot cooler. Click on Arkaroola and it will take you to the place where you can see the temps for yourselves. It's only a few hundred km to the Simpson and that's closed from Dec 1st till mid March because of the heat.... W

As said, my tip is it will be Stinking Hot! I've done it before, never again! Temps, somewhere between 40c & 48C. What suprised me the most was that it never got below 30-35 overnight!

I love the area. I have rescued 3 people from this area. DO NOT GO at the time you indicate. I am SOuth Australian, and this is my favourite backyard. You would need to be very lucky to get survival conditions if camping. WD

Beltana and Farina are not far from Arkaroola. If you like ruins, ghost towns etc, then these are a must see.

Water, water, water...and lots of it. I love the heat but even I'd think twice before camping in that sort of heat. If staying in cabins or on-site vans, it's bearable.

Enjoy..!!!

Just been there in Sept - dry, dusty, very warm. Camp ground is bare and dusty, facilities ok. Swimming pool - you've got to be kidding - they survive on fossil ground water. be prepared for semi arid country side - beautiful in its own right - some good spots, we also went to paralana hot springs - hmmm - would I do it again - no. Fairly rough bush tracks

Yep, they do indeed have a pool, and more than the fish pond that graces some caravan parks.

The Ron and Viv Moon guide to the Flinders Ranges is essential IMO to get the most out of the area.

As posted, the Ridge Top tour is terrific.

There are quite a few walks in the area with track notes available at the A. Village. The Village also has wireless internet and $5 capaccinos.

There's a regrettable amount of building and industrial junk scattered around it and a malodorous earth tank near the campground; when the breeze is from the east you get to regret it. But otherwise it's fine and has great views.

There are some good bush camp sites away from the powered sites and still within walking distance of the facilities.
