ill be heading along the M1 down to Townsville, then along the M6 to Mt Isa and across to Tennant Creek, then up to Darwin from there via the 87.
Just a few questions

are there many fishing spots along the way?
if so where about(im not after secret spots ) just a rough idea

Are there many shops/servo's along these roads, and is it very expensive?

Along the M1 & the M6 there are service stops at most of the exit ramps.
Prices are what we pay in NQ. But we feel happy to pay so much fuel tax because it helps fund our motorways.
Take the flyover at Cardwell & exit there for a bit of fishing in the Hinchinbrook Channel

Have you thought about going the Savannah Way, Normanton, Karumba, Burketown, King Ash Bay the list goes on and the dirt road isn't too bad with plenty of servo's but yes it is expensive. Off course once you get to Darwin you've got Yellow Waters in Kakadu, Coroboree on the Mary River take your pick

Hi Pony181
The Katherine River that runs through, you guessed it, Katherine - has fish. Try below the low level crossing just out of town. Also, the United servo in Katherine has the cheapest fuel in town. You'll find that just before you cross the bridge heading north. You must stop at Edith Falls and have a swim and walk up to the waterfalls for another swim. Great place to wash out the dust but unfortunately, no fishing there! Once you get closer to Darwin, the choices will be endless but Corroboree Billabong, Mary River, all the well known spots, will be worth a try in the build up.
