Garmin Nuvi Price Drops.

Hi All,
I thought that I would like to share some information that we received at work this week. Garmin are dropping the price on their very popular Nuvi range, just in time for the Christmas Season. Depending on which model, the prices have dropped from $50 to a massive $200 price drop on the Nuvi 5000.

I have nothing personally to gain out of this post, but would like to help those that are looking, that there are now even more reasons to buy one of these great and easy to use in car navigation unit.

Is it across their whole range Stephen? I'm interested in one of the 60 series units.

Cheers Mick

Hi Mick,
We have been advised that it is for the Nuvi range only.
I will contact you about the 60 series of hand held units.

Cheers

Mick, I have a 60CS and am currently looking at a Oregon 300, maybe we could do a bulk deal with GPSOZ.

Hi Stephen
Could be good news - cerainly looking for price drop on tyres and a number of things following massive change to dollar value.

I note that GpsOz hasn't changed any prices as per http://www.gpsoz.com.au/garmin/index.htm

I suppose this is advance noification and might take a while to get thru to dealers .

Hi Robin
Yes price drops are always good for the consumer. I find it strange that it is so far only on the Nuvi Range. As for the advanced notification, we are only a very small fish, compared to some of the big players on the market. When price drops are notified, all dealers are sent a claim form, for any stock that you have on hand, so that the new pricing can be applied to the dealers existing stock.

It does not sound like a dollar value thing, as it is a varied pricing across the Nuvi Range, the minimum drop was $50, many units dropping $100 - $150 and only the Nuvi 5000 dropping $200.

The Nuvi Range of in car navigation are great and very easy to use.

Cheers

G'day Stephen,
Just slightly off topic, but maybe you can assist me.
I have a Nuvi 660. In July last year it decided it didn't want to find satelites (just using the flip up antenna on the back).

When I got back home from that trip (you know, the fabled trip to Innaminka when i cracked my chassis), I bought a cheap ebay external antenna and have it permanently mounted now. All is good again.

The problem (?) I now have is that it is a big job if I ever want to move the Nuvi over to my town car (Subaru) for a trip to the big smoke. So, I don't bother; I just use the old fashioned street directory.

I've looked on ebay, but can't find any cradles for the 660 for sale. Obviously the sellers have all moved on to selling 760s etc and therefore the accessories for the 660 (on ebay anyway) have disappeared.

So, the question is, do you know if I can buy a cradle/power supply and another external antenna for the 660, that I can set-up and leave in the Subaru? That way I can still get by with just the one GPS unit, but be able to quickly move it from one vehicle to the other.

The other alternative is that i just buy another GPS for the Subaru, which is a waste as i am the only driver in the family, so it's not as if Annette needs one on her deadly treadly. hahaha

Thanks mate

Roachie

Be careful. I have a Nuvi 265T with USA maps and wanted to download the Australian set. Cost $195. The unit is for sale for $165 - $180 and if it gets discounted, then even less. You do get a free upgrade of maps for a limited time after you buy but if you miss the time limit you would ned to buy an upgrade. Cheaper to buy an new GPS!

It sounds like the unit must have come from overseas, as all the Nuvi units that are sold from Garmin here in Australia have either Australian or Australian and New Zealand mapping. Garmin also offer for about $190 life time guaranteed maps updates.

Does anyone have any comments about the NUVI 5000, which is offered by one on-line supplier at $544 with 2GB card and off road maps. Is that a good price, do these machines work? Especially will it warn me which lane to be in when I accidentally drive into a bg city!

Thanks

Nick

Forget this question, I just read a review which says that it doesn't have an internal battery so presumably if you want to use the power socket for something else for a while then you lose settings. I can't be bothered with double socket adaptors etc if they can't be bothered to make it properly in the first place.
