A few friends and I are planning a 4WD trip to Cape York, but some of us have businesses to run and can't take too much time off work, so we thought that getting the vehicles to Cairns Via road or Rail would save us a lot of time.
We hit a snag when none of the transport companies will transport the vehicles with gear in them!!! also my Cruiser is too high anyway (2.15m)
Has anyone done this before or now a way to do it?

easy to get it to cairns,
1st you put me on your insurance
2nd you fly me from Sydney to Adelaide.
3rd you give me your keys and petrol card or cash,
4th you fly me back from cairns to Sydney.
that's how easy it is.

Have you looked into the feasibility of flying to Cairns and hiring 4 x 4's?
Would be faster, but I have no idea of the cost.
Cheers.

I had my Nissan Patrol transported on a car carrier back from Cairns to Sydney at the end of July. It was fully loaded with gear which i agree is difficult to find in a carrier.(height 2.4m no problem) I can't think of any better way of finishing your holiday by being able to fly home rather than sit in the car being bored for days on end. It was competitive too.
I will track down the info at home and give you the details. I remember asking the question about Perth to Sydney when i do my next trip from Cairns to Broome which wasnt a problem so I am sure they can do it for you.
