Spent many years working with flooded carpets in houses, this is the same, you have to remove ALL coverings from the floor, wash the floor if needed, hang carpet up and hose down to remove all mud and then hang to dry, this process may take several weeks.
THERE IS NO OTHER WAY.

Been there done that. After a while I started buying carpetless 4bies so that one could pull the bungs and hose the mud out. Have had water and mud come in through the drivers side window as 4by tilted over in mudhole

As Pesty says...its a PITA job but someone (you!) has to do it...lol

Tell the missus to get over it. Its all part of the fun of not growing up.

Good to see the Toyota Recovery Vehicle at work....hahahaha

Done something similar a few years ago to my 105 series, i shopped around and bought a new set of carpets for the car...think it cost me a few hundred bucks...stripped the inside, cleaned and dried out the floors and then sprayed with lanolin, make sure you check all electrical connections in the car that may have got wet and clean and spray them with CRC or somthing similar.
new carpets in and back together...all done and back together in a weekend.

have cleaned and packed away the original carpets because no doubt i will do it again some day.

Bit of a pain in the behind but has to be done.

That hole looks very familiar.
Is it at Yalwal?
See the trouble is that lifted trucks with 33 inch tyres make ruts too deep for the diffs of unmodified trucks to clear.
I walked a fellow club member through a hole just like that but he didn't get the concept and tried anyaway with the same result.

You will also be wise to drain and refill both diffs and inspect the transfer oil, and grease the unis ( if they are greasable).
if not I guarantee in six months you will be up for new diffs as my club member friend was.

No.... that's not the most stupid thing you have ever done...... but I must say what does rank up there is having people so close to that recovery. Was the snatch strap draped over the tow ball? I couldn't really tell for sure from the video but it looked like that to me. That, and with no dampener on the strap, and people close by is a disaster waiting to happen.

Getting stuck in a 4WD is part and parcel of off roading.... your carpet will dry out and the damage to the car can be repaired. People can't be repaired.

Disclaimer: To everyone reading this, I make no apologies for my comments above. If you don't agree with it, too bad. It's my opinion only. If you think that I'm a bit "over-the-top" with safety regarding recoveries, first tell the young bloke that lost his legs at Ormeau a few years ago, or the bloke that died on Moreton Island....... if you can convince them, then, and only then, I'll listen to you.

you are absolutely right, however all I needed was a little pull to get unstuck, and yes the towball was on, but I have learned in the meantime not to do it again.
its all in the practising and we were all bit panicking as the mud came in after about 2min. therefore wanted to get out as fast as possible.

I'm with you Brian that was my 1st thought also.
Anyone can get themselves in situations where help is required but it's the way a recovery is done that is far more important than getting bogged in the 1st place.
I know for a fact just how much energy a snatch strap stores in a recovery situation, I've got a really nice dent in the back door of my GQ from a snatch strap breaking where no energy dampener was used.
My fault entirely, we did everything else by the book with no one any where near the recovery apart from the lack of the dampener. It's a lesson I've learned really well.

Amazing what forces are in a snatch strap during a recovery isn't it?? Someone else on this forum has posted many times his distaste for straps.... (Willem?? I think??) and as time has gone by I am more and more in agreeance with him. But correct procedures will protect the people, if not the cars.... and THEY can be repaired.

The other thing that could have been done differently is to have turned the Navara around, so the square hitch was used (instead of a front tow point) and the occupants of the front seat would have been better protected if something broke. I agree with Brian and Andrew's comments.

While I have often tried to convince people to use winch rather snatch straps to limit the force , its often difficult for us all to agreee on what constitutes real saftey.

E.G. Would my choice of no bullbar be better than a good solid ARB one.

Well at the point of impact with a roo I'd rather have the bullbar , but with a pedestrain 50m in front as I hit the brakes that 60 extra KG represents a significantly worse stopping distance and without it I might stop before impact.

Tricky choices sometimes !

Good point there, and I guess most of our bull bars are simply "accessories hangers" for the most part, and we hope we never have to use them for the job they were designed. But we still have them, and I am WAAAAY to lazy to take mine off and only put it on when we go travelling.

But I won't be swayed with my points about safety with snatch straps..... they can be dangerous when used incorrectly and people have been hurt/maimed/killed by them too many times.

That's a prime example of why the rated fording depth of most 4Bs is only 600 or 700mm. That's to the top of the rim on most cars, not the top of the tyre.

Hey look on the bright side -

1) you didnt have to worry about mud on your boots wrecking the carpet every time you got back in for the rest of the weekend, and

2) Nathan didnt have to get out to got to the toilet, he could just stay where he was and top up the fluid levels

Yes jschacher1, telling the whole world you were recovered by a Nissan is probably the most stupidist thing you've ever done.

For Gods sake man, you drive a Prado, and getting one stuck three feet under water is not a problem. The least you could do is wait for the next 100 series to come along and pull you out, I mean, the carpet is not getting any wetter.

The wait will also give you an air of nonchalance amongst your fellow 4 wheel drivers, especially the Nissan drivers who will be in ore during this time of what would be from them, a life changing critical incident.

As a fellow Prado driver, and having watched the video, I'm thinking your new to driving through bog holes. We all live and learn. But what we dont do, in any circumstance is to run off to the nearest Navara driver to get us out.

Having said that I did note some redeeming points.

1. You got stuck, but appears at no time did you get your feet wet
2. Someone else did get his feet wet.
3. No equalizing strap was used on the Navara, indicating that at least some effort was used to pulled his chassis out of elingement at no cost to you
4. And I'll go out on a limb and say it probably wasn't even your snatch strap in the first place was it? good move there.

So well done in those regards.

So finally if, and this is a big if. If you do require the services of a Nissan, dont tell anyone, dont film it, and most importantly dont post it on a public forum.
