Has anyone been along the old rutile road from Mungo Brush to Seal rocks lately? Can you still
camp(camper trailer) about half way along at the back of
the beach?

Hi Gronk
We did that track a few weeks back. Quite passable, but very corrugated. Surprisingly there was a lot of water lying on the track but not deep enough to worry about. From meory its about 19 k's from Mungo to Seal Rocks and that took us just over an hour. I think you are talking about camping at Big Gibber. The track out there was ok and I can't see any reason why you couldn't
camp there. Did see a very hungry
dingo out on
the beach so watch your tucker bag!

Sorry, should have said that the corrugations are all tightly packed rocks so I can't see any reason for the conditions to have changed. The track out to Big Gibber is all sand but is quite ok.

Yep, was there last weekend.
Still open, still really bumpy - it's actually a series of large potholes joined by rocks. Water remains long after the rains because the soil is extremely compacted and the track is protected from the heat of the day.
You can still
camp at several spots along the track.Smile, you're on ExplorOz

Gronk, This rd is officialy closed as per the NPWS plan of management as adopted in nov 2002.It`s good to here that it`s still open. I last went up it in march 2003. The
camp site that you might be refering to that is half way along the track I have always known as fiona`s beach. It`s behind big gibber headland also known as paperbark flat. I think they are all the same place. I have camped there a few times. It`s a great spot BUT last time I was there (march 2003) they had
orange barrier fence acros the track. On the NPWS plan this is also to be closed.Have not checked out other tracks of this track but would like a report if your going there.Nick G
