Hi all

Is it really that difficult, or is it just me lol

Have bought Ozi explorer & NatMap digital maps, but just can't get them to work
I haven't actually seen it used before which isn't helping my cause, but flying blind, am having difficulties and am about to throw something.
Is there anyone in Sydney who would be able to give me a few "hands on" pointers. If I can actually see it used, it MAY sink in a bit easier...

Cheers

Hi Steve
When you get the hang of things, it is the best thing you will use when on the move. Don't forget you will also need a GPS to be able to use it as a moving map.

Stick to it.

Thanks

Hard to tell remotely what exactly your problem is. Understand that each map has two files the actual map will have an extension like ozfx3 or ecw plus the index for the map will have the same name with a ".map" extension.

I put both files into C:/oziexplore/maps

Make sure you set the configuration settings to tell ozi where the maps are.

I should have added that after loading the files and configuring Oziexplorer you must ask it to load a map before you will see any map on Oziexplorer.

G'day Alan

I don't seem to have the .map files for some reason. The ecw file is there, ( quite large ) but nothing else. When I go to "load map file" select 250kMaps the next folder to open is called NATMAP dvd2. It appears that there is nothing in that file, even though the 250kmap folder shows 4.25 Gig

Steve,

There are several options for you...one being to go to the "Australia Page" on the Oziexplorer website and download the appropriate .map reference files from there.

Further installation instructions can also be found on that site at http://www.oziexplorer3.com/eng/auslig_raster_250k.html

Other options include the ability to automagically import and calibrate the ECW files via the file menu of Oziexplorer.

Hope that helps.

The map files (very small) should be on the Natmap DVD.

Anyway if you have the ecw map in Explorer/maps you can generate your own map file.

Under file in Oziexplorer is the option to import a map click this and select the ecw map option and then follow through and it will generate the map file for you.

Hopes this helps

G'day Alan.. Now we're getting somewhere

I Downloaded the application Andrew posted above and it now finds the maps

I may still need some help, but am definately making progress

1 last question for now. The map files are listed as "zone 49 mga.map, Zone 50........, is there a list of the areas these maps cover or can you go through them and re-name these on the DVD

Thanks to all

Steve

The map zones are like vertical slices across australia. You need the ecw files to go with them and they should be on the Natmap DVD as well.

Zone 56 should show where you live. Zone 49 is Western Australia

Don't change file names.

Put both files (ecw and map) in the Oziexplorer/maps directory.

When you load a map - you actually load the .map file and it finds the ecw image file.

You have the choice of using the mosiac for the whole of australia (great for computers) or the zone maps which are smaller and often used on handhelds.

You could also use the 540 indivual maps to cover Australia.

The zone maps should work fine for you.

Donks,
On the Natmap DVD or in the NATMAP directory if you have the NASTMAP data installed properly, look for a file with the name "250k.ecw" This file contains the seamless map of all of Australia rather than the ones mentioned above that are split into zones.

If you have loaded the Natmap digital maps 2008, look in the following directory "C:\Program Files\NATMAP\NATMAP RASTER VIEWER\1.6\Maps\250K-Mosaic\NATMAP-DVD1"

Once you know that files location (250.ecw) start up OziExplorer:
and then in the top menu bar select:
File
then
Import Map
then
8th line form the top
ECW (UTM or Lat/Lon based only)
A box appears where you put in the location of the 250.ecw file as above:

ECW File path: (For example "C:\Program Files\NATMAP\NATMAP RASTER VIEWER\1.6\Maps\250K-Mosaic\NATMAP-DVD1")

and also the destination folder for where you want the .MAP file to be stored when created.
Map File Path: For example ("C:\GPS-Navigation\OziExplorer\Maps")

Once this is done you have installed the ECW file and from then on OziExplorer should alsways know where to find bith the nap and image (ecw) file.

I hope that helps
