I am looking for a television for our caravan.
Do I have to buy a special kind to run on 12v or 240v or is it just the adaptor I would need to purchase.
Has anyone had good or bad experiences with any kind.
Thanks Julie

I've got a dirt cheap JNC Flat panel LCD and it's been working for 4 years.
It is a native 12 Volt system so I run it full time straight from the 12 Volt battery system.
I comes with a 240 to 12 volt adapter but I don't use it.
There are heaps of reasonably priced Digital/Analogue sets available that have the best of both worlds, digital when it's available and analogue for those
places that don't yet have digital.
A lot of these sets will run directly from a 12 volt battery, but make sure you check with the retailer on the voltage they use.

No it's actually JNC, a thinly disguised attempt to mislead the public I guess.
Cheap as chips 4 years ago, don't know if they are still available.
It doubles as a TV monitor as
well.

We have a Kogan in the van and one in the grandkids bedroom at home, both with builtin DVD players. They are great, good value and reception.

We have just ordered a new van due Marchd therefore needed a new TV. We happened to be next to a Harvey Norman's thinking I'll just check out some TV's
well we came home with one it's a 12 volt Grundig 19inch flat screen HD with a built in DVD full price was $699 marked to $549 I told the man I.d give $500 cash as a bit of a joke but he came back yep so had to find 5 hundred. Will make the point it;s still in the box so dont know know what it will be like but came with a 3 year warranty picture in the
shop was good.

We have a Grundig Misura and while the picture is good you have to look at it fairly straight on as the angle of viewing is a bit less then I would like.
IE you have to have it so its tilted forward a bit if you are sitting below the centre of screen height so its still square to your viewing angle.
They all look good in the
shop but can be different when u get them in the van.

Hi Julie,i brought a flat screen LCD JVC 19 inch with a built in DVD player for the times we get no reception in the bush.It runs on 240v and with the purchase of a 12v transformer it becomes really versatile.Great little unit.Cost was around the $550.00 mark from JB Hi Fi.When it comes to aerials dont skimp.Get one that comes with a booster to help with the weak signals or you might find yourself cursing due to lack of reception in certain areas.Bear in mind the booster requires a 240v power supply.Hope this helps :)

We bought a TEAC 12/240v from Harvey Norman got a great deal. We decided on the TEAC instead of the Konig because with the TEAC you can remove the DVD player (if it malfunctions) and send it off for repair with other brands you have to send off the whole TV unit. Hope this helps. Make sure there is a 12 volt lead in the box before you leave the store some brands advertise 12 volt but do not supply lead. Sales staff are not awake to this either!!!

Second that. I purchased a 22inc Teac with the DVD player.
Mine did not have
the 12 volt lead in box, Had to get that from Teac about $80. Have not been
away yet to try it out bush. But it works good at home on 12volt/240 TV and
DVD,and with the sat dish. Should be some deals coming up, end of year sales.

Our new van came with a 19" TCL lcd tv - inbuilt DVD player - digital and analogue supported - installed with a robust swinging wall bracket, it was about $1350 all up. It's teamed with a powered Wineguard wind-up antenna. The picture is excellent. The remote works fine. Only negative for me is that the handbook, as with lots of modern appliances, assumes too much familiarity with the product by the owner. Took me awhile to suss out the setup (maybe it's me but :-o).

Our Teac with built in DVD died after 14 months - 12 month warranty. It was analogue, so we were about to buy a set top box to accept digital TV.
Between the two issues, we decided to scrap it rather than look at repair and get a new digital TV. After some research and shopping around, we settled on a Grundig. It has 3 year warranty - most of the others have 1 year. A couple of 'no names' have warranties longer than 1 year, but will they be around when needed?
Another issue is to check the pixels. Some of the cheaper ones, though marketed as HD have way less screen pixels. I suspect they are really standard definition TVs with a built in HD tuner - not true HD. Make sure you know what you are buying.
So far, we are very happy with the Grundig. I think we paid $539 for it.

When it comes to "missing" 12v leads its much more ecomical to make your own rather than pay the rediculous price asked by the manufacturers.
A trip to Jaycar will get you all the bits for under $15.00.

G`day Julie,
I bought a 15 inch flat screen 12 v television with dvd player from Coles
Bendigo for $199.90, the same thing without the dvd function was $99.90.
That was a couple of years ago and it has a fair belting on some rough tracks during that time, it has never missed a beat. It is a "MXT" brand made in China.
Just a bit more info if you are thinking of SAT TV .
Dish from recycle yard at the tip________ $10.00
Bracket for tele, converted a computer monitor bracket from r/c yard___$10.00
Sat Receiver box "Strong" brand $125.00
Bandit sat card __________ $25.00
A cheap set up that works very
well.
MM me if you wish.
Scrubby

Just remember, 99% of flatscreen tv's under 20" are 12v units with a lead supplied with a 240v - 12v transformer (brick) in the cord.
Just bypass the brick and you have a 12v tv.
Don't pay big bucks for a "dedicated 12v tv" . They are all 12v.
Cheers
