Hi fellow members i was camped out
macquarie heads camping ground
Strahan when i heard a bring bring tone just like a phone, it was a bird, someone suggested it was a butcher bird, i did not catch a site of the bird, could anyone tell me what type of bird it was. I am on the road for ten years around Australia, and while experimenting I found a must try, for anyone using a
camp oven, cobb or dream pot. when you make your golden syrup dumplings or eves pudding, try some coffee chocolate icecream with a drizzle of sambooka its great , I read a motto the other day from
strahan holiday
park, it goes like this,
our motto
Who cares how old you are, live life to the fullest !
life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely, in
well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting,
Holy Sh_T, What a ride !!

I read that lyrebirds are in Tassie, introduced in the 19th century, maybe that is what you heard, wonderful mimickers of everything and anything.

Years ago at
campsite we were involved in we started a large search for a baby lost in the bush. A large group had headed of on a bush walk and were unable to contact them. We could hear a baby crying but got no response from an adult when we yelled out. After about 1 hr of looking 2 of us decided to go by ourselves very quietly and look rather than in a large group. We were dumb founded to come across a Lyrebird crying like a baby. Even though we could see it was the bird it was still hard to believe it wasn't a baby. There had been a sick baby in the group who had been crying alot over the last couple of days and the bird just copied it.
A Bower bird would be more like a bell than a ring I would have thought.

Hi,
The best telephone" bbrriingg-bbrriinngg" I have ever heard was found to be a
Rainbow Lorikeet. It took a few days to finally find this out, and my wife and self nearly ran our legs off, dashing for the phone.
This bird was a new neighbours pet,not caged, but free to roam the house.
The owner was a wildlife carer, and had had the bird for a few years, and it was a real character.

My son has a cockateel that mimics the phone, and if he sees some one coming down the driveway, he starts mimicking the door bell in anticipation.
cheers
