I wish I had seen this site about 15 months ago when I had my 2001 Pajero Exceed converted to a dual fuel system. I have had nothing but trouble with the thing. The installation is fantastic and I think they have done a terrific job however from the moment we took ownership it has never been right. About a week after delivery it started playing up and had to return it as the computer for the gas iinstal became faulty and made the motor idle really rough and would not allow me to swap from gas to petrol. Sent it back and they changed the computer no problem. All was good for about a week or two when the thing started to idle so rough at traffic lights it almost stalled I kept perservering with it until 2 huge backfires which destroyed my air intake box at a cost of $530. Took it back to check the tuning and stuff and found nothing wrong except they said the oiler was empty which I found hard to believe as I had checked it the day before. I am now at a stage where my wife and I are so worried about using the gas we have decided to run on petrol. The system that we had installed was an Airod system which Im sure works very
well in other types of cars (As it does in my sons 1992 Ford Fairmount) But is completely unsuitable in my car. We have now decided to pay an extra $3000 and have the direct injected version put in so I will keep you posted. Looking forward to see if the economy will be any different as I think 25 Ltr / 100 KM is a bit steep

sorry to hear of your troubles.
I had my 99 Prado converted 15 months ago and she runs absolutely beautiful; however I'm not happy with the sloppy installation.
hope it all works out for you.

Hi,
Sorry to hear your troubles.....
In my opinion the direct injection is the only way to go. I had an NK 3.5ltr Pajero coverted to gas & back then the injected system was'nt available.
I had so much trouble with backfiring & rough idle & stalling. The installer came up with diferent excuses as to why we were having problems & mostly blamed the ignition system. In the end after almost a year of trying to fix it I gave up & removed the whole system & just installed dual long range petrol tanks........& never looked back. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but maybe there are others out there with more positive experiences.
The Paj is gone now but it was a great car & travelled all over this land of ours........ only on petrol which ended up a bit expensive. Towing was up to 22ltr.100kms. We now have a diesel..... Very happy.

Im sure that when I had was done the direct injected wasnt an option but now it iis. I dont know if the installer new of this at the time. He did my mates Prado and he is very happy. He says he gets about 400 ks to 60 ltr of gas. Very surprising not sure if he is pulling my leg but I know the guy and he isnt that kind of person.

Another good site for all things Pajero is
The Pajero Club.
These beasts do not go
well on the older style system like you have and backfires, destroying the air box, are the usual outcome. Injected is the way to go. Had
mine done about 18 months (Impco/BRC system) ago and not a single issue with it.
Averages about 18lt/100ks.
Where are you from BTW?

From
Sydney. I think the new system is going to be the IMPCO system so keeping my fingers crossed all will be better. That economy so terrific.

We had our Rodeo converted to gas two years ago, an ELKO sequential injection system, and almost 40k down the track have had nothing but praise for the system, so happy were we that we have now installed a second
tank. We did have one minor issue with a whiff of the odour of gas coming through the a/c vents occasionally but this was quickly corrected. I have not noticed any reduction in power but am a little disappointed at the increase in consumption when towing our caravan, without the 'van we get around 17L/100km on gas (this is up from around 14.5 on ULP) but with the 'van it jumps to around 21-23L/100km.....I say disappointed because at the time of installation I was told that there would be 'little increase' in consumption. Not such a major point nowadays as our travels involve hopping between
camp-sites across this wide brown land rather then driving long distances at one go.
Happy to hear of any other consumption experiences, especially Rodeo's.

A mate has a Prado petrol on gas with the new injection system & raves about it. I have only had dealing with the old system & what I saved in filling up & general driving I certainly paid back twice over in repairs caused to the radiator & motor. I have one answer. GAS BELONGS IN BBQ'S. Until provem otherwise, that is my opinion. With diesels, just put the fuel in & drive them. Oil change, take sump plug out & unscrew filters. Dump oil. Put sump plug & new filters on fill up with oil. No tuning. No new leads or when mechanics cannot get the car to run correctly look for same lane excuse. I was told by an engineer, a vehicle on LPG must be tuned by a DYNO & set up for gas only to get the most out of the system. You will lose economy & certainly power, especially under load like towing a big van. My brother inlaw was touring WA & unleaded was $2:15 p/L....LPG was $1.89...he turned off the LPG, had vehicle retuned to U/leaded & continued his long trip. He has a 80 series cruiser & a 21' full van.

Thats interesting . My mates Prado is going like a dream . I only hope there is light at the end of the tunnel. At that price of gas why would anyone consider going down this track. I Certainly would not have given it a thought if the price of gas was more than 50% of petrol.

Have just picked up the Mitsi ($3504 later) and it appears to be OK. But you wouldnt believe it the price of LPG has shot up to 0.65c/ltr. At this price why would anyone bother with LPG conversions. When the price gets to be 50% of the unleaded petrol price then its just not worth it. This is daylight robbery on be half of the petrol companies especially when the government sells the gas to China at 0.02c/ltr
