Camping on Moreton Island

G'day all,

We are heading to Moreton Island next week and were looking at having 3 nights at one campsite and 3 at another. Can anyone recommend a good campsite, don't really want to get blown out. We have a 2 year old so anything you think would be suitable would be appreciated. Thanks heaps!

Hi FBs.

Have a look at Threads (Threadfind in the Search box, above) 73097, 71594, 71323,68379.

Enjoy your trip, it's a great spot. Check the weather forecast for next week - it can get hot at this time of year.

Hi Flightless Birds,
Is that Nathan & Taryn by any chance????? When we stayed on moreton we stayed at a campsite just north of the resort not far from where you get off the ferry, can't remember the name of the spot though. There was a toilet block there with cold showers and plenty of room. Campsites on the ocean side are very windy so I would stick to the mainland side where possible.
Near where the ferry comes in is a shipwrck creating an artificial reef. A great spot to dive around but you do need to watch the currents as they can be very strong on an outgoing tide. Some amazing fish there to see.

Happy travelling
Josh

Yes Josh, it's us! Should have known just to email you guys! We hate booking in advance but it seems a necessary evil over school hols. Thought West might be best - cheers for the info. Get the pad ready for our camper in Feb/Mar and tell the girls to get their baby sitting boots on. Ruby is very keen to see them. xxxx

I think in the middle of summer you might appreciate the extra breeze you can get on the ocean side. Many of the campsites have some shelter from the breeze. With a 2 yr old I'd vote for staying somewhere near Blue Lagoon. Also check out honeymoon bay and north point.

The girls can't wait to see Ruby again. The last week of Feb I have off, am planning a trip up the east coast fishing each day. Plan to be in Scammander by the weekend for the ABT Bream classic, care to join me!!!!!
Blue Lagoon is a nice spot as well but would be very busy I would imagine.

Wish we were there

Flightless Birds

We just returned from Moreton last week after having spent 5 days there. We have a 2 and a 4 year old so we prefer to camp on the western (inland) side. The calm crytal clear water is ideal for the kids.

we usually stay at the Combouyro (sp?) campground and go at the end of november. During this period the weather is good but we are usually the only people in the campground. Combouyro has toilets and showers and is walking distance to Bulwer and the shop if you need it. Also rememcer that the ferry goes to and from Bulwer every tuesday (in case you plan to travel then) rather than tangalooma.

we stayed at the northern end of the campground (site 35) and it was very protected altough the week that we there had some serious northeries so sitting on the beach was a bit windy at times. For calmer wind we sometimes walked towards the southern end of the campground (towards Bulwer). There are some midgies on the stretch of sand between the shore and the camping ground so the wind kept most of them away.

Also the beach in front of the Campground is closed to vehicles which is great if you have kids around. I beleive the Northpoint campground is also good for kids but can get windy, but I have never camped there.

Hope that helps

By the way, your camper will cost you $180 (return)on the barge.

All the best.

R.
