I am fed up with the constant rip off prices for gas on the west aus coast. The gas prices for car lpg make it uneconomiocal to run my car on gas. The cost of the conversion was a total waste. Also can anyone explain why gas prices vary wildly often becoming dearer in
places closer to the supplier. Government regulation of fuel prices is a must. At the moment unless you buy most of your fuel in a capital city dont even consider converting your car to gas unless you are doing it for the environment

Mate,
Up here in sunny NQ the taxi's stopped using it quite a few years back as they were getting ripped off.
Current price I think is around 75c a litre.
For a country that has more gas than you can poke a stick at, I find it very strange that the price is where it is. I believe it still doesn't attract the fuel tax yet.

Yes very strange as the price is around 52c in
Melbourne but stranger still with safeway servo's (
caltex ) 2 ks apart the price can be 4 to 5c the difference and it all comes from the same supplier....

you must be aware that "gas" and "LPG" are different things? LPG doesnt come straight from the ground.
Same reason why you cant buy fish fingers straight off the boat at
the wharf?
Kalbarri also is
well off the beaten track. Having said that if anyone is suprised that fuel companies are skimming a little bit off you
well, where have you been?....
My understanding is that while LNG is produced in vast quantities on the NW coast, this is not what is sold for vehicle use. The LPG for vehicles is produced in
Perth by Wesfarmers (Kleenheat) from gas pumped down the pipeline from the domestic/commercial supply pipeline to Bunbury.
LPG cant be piped for any large distance.
Please feel free to correct any incorrect portions of this!

If transport is a big factor in the price differences then we should expect gas to become more expensive the further we travel from the point of manufacture but the prices are all over the place. The reality of the situation is that we are getting ripped wherever there is no competition. At least I am lucky enough to be able to drive past the riipoff merchants.

While I'm wound up, petrol at
Kalbarri is $1.35 which is 10% dearer than the best
Perth price which is probably reasonable but lpg at
Kalbarri is 95c compared to todays best pice in
perth of 59c this is a whopping 60% increase. So is it costing 60% extra to transport gas to here and only 10% more for petrol, I don't think so. something smells very fishy.

onya Zacc-so you reckon LPG comes out of the ground at
Dongara??
Best look a little further into that to avoid looking a little foolish?
Of course we all get ripped off for fuel. No need to get nasty about it at me though. Only sought to explain part of it for your information.
Kalbarri and
Tom Price are in totally different leagues in terms of road freight

Ya dead right
Tom Price is a hell of a lot further.
Coral Bay is a long way north of
Kalbarri and the last time I was there the fuel prices were much the same and it is off the main drag.
Kleenheat have the monopoly and and are part of an organization that has been looked after by government for a very long time even when we have had government enquirers into the price they come out squeaky clean which is a surprise not.
These pricing deals are not done on a cost plus basis but on what they can screw you for and if they need to screw you more to subsidize a big corporation or whatever just get ready to bend over that's just how it works.
Same with the can't use auto gas in your lpg gas equipment when the gas they truck into town is the same gas but even though you are paying a heap for auto gas you will pay a lot more for bottled gas which is a bigger rip off.
don't need the BS excuses just the truth ....but I won't hold my breath

I used gas in 2wd cars in
Sydney from 1988 to 2007 and for at least 95% of that time, it was always a few cents under half the price of petrol. My cars always used about 12% more gas than petrol to go the same distance so running costs worked out at a saving of around 50%
Rural areas were a different story though. It was much higher once you got out over the mountains except on high traffic roads like the Hume Highway. On one trip to far north Qld, it was so close to petrol prices that I would not have considered converting the car had I been living there permanently.
I don't know how they work it out. Maybe it has something to do with weighing up the cost of transport plus storage and pumping expenses against the volume of sales in some areas.

I have converted my 99 Prado about 8 months ago and I am very happy. I usually pay around 58c/lt near Forestville,
Sydney.
Even though there isn't much saving on the actual running cost I do however feel that the motor runs a lot smoother and quieter.
It is unbelievable that this Government has no interest in controlling the cost; as said before, we have plenty of it!!!

I humbly agree. You wouldnt believe it Ive had to rip the old gas system out of my Pajero to put in a system that doesnt backfire. Now Im $4000 down the gurglar just becase I thought I would be Enviromentally responsible and may be save a few dollars at the same time. Now the Greedy oil companies have put up the prices so it makes no sense to even think about Gas convrsion.
So If you are thinking of it then DONT. Its not worth it if the price is more than %50 of unleaded petrol . Be very wary.
Regards Paul
