Does anyone know where I could get steel offroad wheels made for a reasonable cost - looking at 9 or 10" wide and 16" diameter.

I have a unique wheel stud pattern (nato six stud) with a large PCD that no standard manufacturer in Australia makes. The best price so far is just under $400 a wheel.

Thanks

Garry

Hello Garry, As a suggestion why don't you try a tyre retailer (tyrepower/bob Jane etc}who sell rims. I'm sure they could tell you if anyone make rims in your state

Thanks - but no luck - they loose interest as soon as I explain what I want and they realise they do not sell what I want.

Cheers

Where are you located?

If in Vic you can try this guy:
http://www.unlimitedindustries.com.au/

Know some guys who had some custom wheels made by him.

I would contact Chris Hummer at Dynamic Tyres and ask him.

Take a look here.

Chris is an importer of steel wheels and has lots of competition experience so knows a bit about strong wheels.

No affiliation etc but I do know he is a good guy.

Bonz

Thanks for the replies looks like if I continue this route I will need to pay about $400 a rim or maybe do a private import for not much cheaper.

In brisbane when we wanted some wider steel wheels for the racing rubber for the 74 beetle, we took some narrow rims (15x4.5) to a local racing wheel bloke, and they put the old centres in new rims for 15x8 rims.

They were about $120.00 each.

Plus painting, powder coating was about $40.00 each.

Try some buggy people in melbourne?

Thanks the vehicle (Landrover FC 101) is a bit of a classic and the original wheels are quite rare and expensive so I really do not want to go this route. Looking for a second set of wheels so that the originals can go back on when needed.

Cheers

At one stage, we were seriously considering that it would be cheaper to get the brake drum and disc brakes hubs redrilled to something standard like commodore to solve the problem. Quite a common conversion in VW beetle circles.
Is there something close that is more common that might be worthwhile converting to?
The FC101 landrover would be something different, front cab over and higher load rating I imagine?
Do Renault or Mercedes light trucks use something similar?

PS - by accident, we discovered that Hyundai excel rims fit the older beetles, that is one you wouldn't expect. Offset a bit different , but they will work.

The only other vehicle that has the same stud pattern are the smaller Unimogs but they have similar issues with suitable tyres.

What is the PCD you require,? I am thinking that a lot of bobcats use that type of wheel. Eric.

The PCD is 6x210mm with 22mm wheel stud holes. The hole for the hub in the centre is 135mm.

Just check the speed/load rating and they may not meet ADR's for wheels (may or may not bother you - but may bother your insurance - imported alloy wheels can have the same issue), the good custom mob's x-ray/crack test the welds to meet ADR's I believe - may be worth the extra few $ for piece of mind depending on the k's your doing on them.

I guess there are not too many bobcats that can do 120kph.

I went down that track about 4 years ago for a different vehicle. ~$400 was about the best I could do. It was still 1/2 the price of a new one.
