Hi All at Exploroz
Looking at going to NQ to do the houseboat bit in July- August next year 2010 for 6 adults for 4 to 5 nights weekend or midweek . Around Cains or Townville. have try google and holiday site for houseboats but all is a bit vague. Maybe someone has been there done that and can help us find a place to have a pleasant time ????

Houseboat? Houseboats are a southerner thing (and European :)) Tides are high up North so limits this concept.

Do you mean "bareboat" yacht chartering by any chance?

The Whitsunday Islands (a liitle south of Townsville) would be my suggestion. Google up Whitsunday Yacht Rental and you'll find any number of yachts and motor cruisers for hire.

Off the coast of Townsville and Cairns (other than Magnetic Island and Green Isalnd repectively) it's just an expanse of water with very little to see or do. Around the Whitsundays you can cruise around, Island hop, visit some resorts and have hundreds of beautiful beaches at your disposal. Some Islands also have National Park areas for bushwalking etc.

" Off the coast of Townsville and Cairns (other than Magnetic Island and Green Island respectively) it's just an expanse of water with very little to see or do."

Hi,
Sorry to disagree Jim but there is the mighty Hinchinbrook Island and channel area almost half way between Cairns and Townsville. There are several houseboat and bareboat charter operators in the area. Yes there are houseboats on Lake Tinaroo also.

Just google "Hinchinbrook Houseboats" - I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised to find all the info and contacts you need. And I can assure you that if you come up this way you will see that it's not just "an expanse of water with very little to see or do"

I have been a silent follower of this forum for sometime and have always enjoyed the comments and views expressed by the contributors but finally feel compelled to go public . As you are well aware tourism is a major industry in FNQ and I would encourage you all to come and see what is on offer.

Cheers and Merry Christmas to you all.

Good pickup. I'd forgotten the Hinchinbrook area, I haven't lived up that way since 95. Great fishing there as well. I've got a mate who runs guided fishing trips up there, lucky sod gets to make a living out of going fishing.

Cheers,

Jim.

As Crusader says . . Hinchinbrook Houseboats . . . beaut channel . . great walks on the Island, good fishing and the cra . . .

Apart from Tinaroo . . all other waters are too exposed for a houseboat holiday . . .

Cheers

Hinchinbrook Island off Cardwell , 150klm or so nth of Townsville , Movie "Nims Island" was made there , Bareboated a 10mtr catamaran there last year for 6 days in Sept , Magic spot even in the rain , fish aplenty.

Love North Queensland but would recommend a house boat holiday out of Tin Can Bay in SEQ, the tides are easy to handle and there are plenty of places to explore up the inside of Fraser Island.
