Hello, in about 2 weeks I'm off to Longreach for a quick trip. (need some k's on the car) and Google maps gives me two options.

One via the Landsborough Hwy, and the other via the Mitchell Hwy, with only 57km's difference.

Never been out here before, does anyone have an opinion on which might be the better road,, and where a good half way stop might be? (I'd like to do it in 2 days, no kids)

Many thanks.
PS. My GPS map is about 2 yrs old so assume I won't have too many issues?

Probably leave your fixing of a route until it is closer to your departure date. There is a little bit of flooding out that way at the moment.
It will no doubt be a very beautiful drive. That's if it stops raining.

2 wheel drive won't detract from the beauty James.
At the worst you will just have to be flexible with your route & time allowance.
That is "at the worst".
You will definitely know in a couple of weeks.

Why not go up one way and back the other.

That's why they made to routes.

If I were you , I would go to Moree then across to St George then North via the Carnavon development road to come out at Emerald then west.

Although it would be a long day, Carnavon Gorge is very worth seeing.

You could also camp a second night if required at Blackdown Tableland National Park just east of Blackwater. This is a beautiful place in an unlikely spot.

A bit longer but far more scenic

Gday James,
Not sure where your leaving from but if its Sydney, I'd go, Dubbo, Bourke, Cunnamulla, Barcaldine then Longreach. Depending on wether roads are open of course.
