If anyone is after a good AGM storage or main battery- look on eBay under 'Lifeline Batterys'. Granted they are second hand- have been used in a UPS situation for life-support systems and have more than likely not been discharged in their life.
For info- the model is GPL-31T. Rated at 105ah with 880 CCA.
New prices are above $500.00 each. I got hold of 2 for a total of $190.00.
When I got them
home I put them on a charge cycle- and now after 5 days they still hold a SOC of 100%.
This would probaly only apply to
Sydney people- the guy is at Mascot. Dunno about freight as the things weigh a tad over 31kgs !!

The best
check is flat sides and top.
if they have only been in standby the cases should show no distortion.
if they have case distortion they have been treated badly or have been in a heavy cycling application.
They sound like they are good units.

Yes Ian- the first thing I looked for was 'swelling'..
Apparently the 'service procedure' for the equipment requires that the batterys are changed at set intervals, regardless.

Are they reading GPL31T as the sizes and weight on the ebay site does not definately represent the 31T actually it represents no Lifeline Battery.
35cmx17cmx25cm and 20KG.
A GPL31T is 328mmx172mmx235mm and weighs 31.4 KGand 105AH.
Now that is the other
test of a good battery weigh one as this will also indicate bad useage as water can be boiled off and cannot be replaced so if the unit still weighs say 31KG its very good.
The 31T is a better battery for under bonnet than the 27T as they are shorter than the smaller Lifeline which is lesser capacity 100AH but 333mm Long
A lot of firms replace UPS system every two years regardless as they cannot risk a failure that can cost a lot more than the cost of the batteries.

Austravel
Ive gone and looked and it appears there is none listed at the moment.
I think it was at Mascot somewhere.
The original poster would have to come on and tell youwhere he got them.

The 5 listings that appeared when searching for "lifeline batteries" and ticking the "completed listings" checkbox came up with 2 of his listings....the ones under $450 ;)

Hiya Austravel
Yes- it is Advanced Batteries at Mascot.
I managed to get 2 on consecutive days. One for $82 and 1 for $103.
They have been installed and all connected up and are working very good. Very pleased to see the SOC keeps up- where as another 'good name' one teneded to go down quite quickly.
The guy said that he does have regular stocks of the Lifeline batteys, so I guess its a matter of just keep on looking.
Cheers

Thanks for that. Have given him a ring, the big drama is transport. Turns out batteries are classed as dangerous goods, not sure how others get around it but he can't for a reasonable price. I'll keep checking to see if there is someone in Brisy that does the same thing.
