Motel closeby to Balmain NSW

I am looking for Motel Accommodation for one night only as close to Balmain as possible and coming in from the west but not as far as the Sydney CBD

Have been on the net most of today scouring the plethora of websites but not coming up with much. Some nice apartments but minimum requirement is 2 or 3 night stay. Don't want to book in advance as I do not possess a Credit Card but will rather take pot luck if I can find something along the way

Need to be closeby as do not want to get stuck in early morning traffic

Any local knowledge out there in the Big Smoke?

We've got country relo's that stay there when they come to the big smoke, Hornsby is too far from the CBD for them ;-)))
If you are coming in from the west or south west it is pretty easy to get to as well.
