The photo is not zoomed, maybe de-zoomed if at all, I just cut that section out , the original photo is nearly 5mb and probably a meter long .
I have a photo here that is 11 screen widths wide and is about 17MB.
This link is for a one about 11.5 mb , when the page opens click on the photo .

If you want a good DSLR buy a Nikon D90 and get a Tamron 18-270 lens for it

Ive got a D200 with that lens and it saves changing lens all the time as usual with a wide angle and a tele.

The D90 is 12mp and takes HD video as well

My advice is go in and handle them before you buy as I was recommended to

buy a Canon but when I tried it it was too small for my hands.

The Nikon 3000 and 5000 are cheaper versions despite what some sellers may say

I picked up a new one of these in early December - 2.8 TD engine. Been running great on the highway, gravel and sand so far.

Plenty of space for the kids in the back, decent sized storage area, good fuel economy, etc. Yet to kit it out properly though (ARB bar on order, will be getting the rest of the accessories over the next few months).

Am going to take it on the powerline treck in the next few weeks to see how it handles the fun stuff.

I had a look at the JEEP website and seen that they have a diesel,
Looks good in red too.
For the ARB Bullbar.... does the large plastic looking bumper come off or do they have some little nudge bar that fits on .

The ARB bar is shown very nicely in the reply below this - complete solid steel item that comes as winch-capable as well. You can also just get the dinky little nudge bar that comes up over the existing plastic bumper to protect the radiator but this is more of 'car bling' for city driving that any real protection.

Having said that, the plastic bumper has been good so far... Someone hit it in a car park a few weeks after we got the vehicle - left a sharp crease ~3cm deep, 5cm high and 2cm wide. I had been told by the dealer than the plastic bumper is 'remoldable' for low impact collisions and figured that at least it would be cheap to fix. Next morning, the crease had gone entirely! It took a few days longer for the white marks to fade from straining the plastic but now it's good as new!

I'm loving having this car - we prefer a much more basic ride that the cruisers, etc have become. Plus, the RRP on this was $50K drive away, including the hard top, tow bar+ball, ARB bar, protection pack (paint, tinting, etc). The sound system that comes with the Renegade Pack is good too (mmm... sub woofer...)

Sillydad - if you want a new bumper to replace your damaged one we have one down in Perth stored at my parents house and you are very welcome to have it for free. Its just taking up space and we will never use it again.

Just drop us a line and I will put you in contact.

Cheers

Hi Sue, thanks for the offer but I'll have the new ARB bar in another week or two. Plus you can't see any damage at all on the 're-molded' bumper now - very impressed with that little feature!

Whereabouts do you get your aftermarket accessories from?

Cheers,

Tristan

The bar, winch and tow bar are from ARB - we had them put on when we bought our Jeep. The wheels and Mickey Thomsons were its first birthday present - for some reason my husband thought it might rain up here sometime, LOL. The best deal we could get on the tyres where at a TP store in Midland - rims came from over east.

It has a Long Ranger fuel tank again from the east and an ARB lift kit.

My husband has just bought new shockies (even though the set with the lift kit are not quiet two years old) - they are adjustable, plus a front steering shockie (not right name) - he bought them from USA because even with the freight charges it worked out a few hundred dollars cheaper than getting them here.

A tip for if you do your own servicing - we just bought 6 original spark plugs from the USA cost $8.99 each plus $10.00 US freight. Over here they wanted $18.00 each plug. Genuine Jeep parts too. While the Aussie dollar is strong its worth getting them sent.

I think thats all he's done to it at the moment although he is making noises about adding a part that changes its gearing to make towing better. Not to mention he would love supercharger? / or is it turbo? but the conversion is for the US left hand drive only at the moment.

Cheers
Sue

Thanks for the info. The strong Aussie dollar (or should that just be weak US dollar...?) are definitely helping imports. My dad saved $3K last year on an AIS system for their yacht!

When was the last time you guys had a decent drop of rain? Our block near Tammin has had a few good thunderstorm dumps so far this summer.

Need to stick with servicing with authorised people for the next little while - vehicle is on a lease from work.

Cheers,

Tristan

Hey Doug - Keep an eye out for us around August as we will be coming through NT

Yes, another Jeep! Ours is a Rubicon Wrangler (petrol). We would have bought diesel but you cant get the Dana ?? diffs and other stuff with diesel. Sorry - my husband knows all the technical stuff I drive it. LOL. Its not quite your Landcruiser for comfort BUT when it goes off road it goes.

Yeah, the Rubicon model comes with everything you need except the diesel!

A diesel with factory fitted diffs, cross-tension bars, etc (i.e. all the extras that the rubicon comes with) can be ordered but generally takes 4 - 6 months to get (according to the dealer we went to).

Don't see too many JK's like yours towing tandem vans particually in the outback. This model Jeep is a surprising alot of people with what they can do. Mine certainly is.

Hi Sue,

My question related to the caravan. I like the van as well so looked up their web site. The Coromal web site does not show a poptop caravan that has a shower/toilet.

From your expereince is this correct. Carl

Coromal recently changed some names of their models - our van is a Coromal Pioneer Corvair 541 it doesnt have a shower toilet as we didnt feel we needed it. Only time will tell there eh - LOL but so far I am right on that one.

If you take a look at www.coromal.com.au and click on the poptops you will find the Magnum 547S - its the shower toilet version of our van. Coromal have changed the styling of the inside of the van they call it European styling. I havent really read all the finishes to compare else is different although I at a quick look I wondered whether they have aircon as standard still.

Cheers

Sue

PS I am in no way connected to Coromal - I just have an interest in different vans. Call me nosey !! lol.

Yeh ok, so I should have known , and checked the specs before I made the comment , like the Ford, Chev, etc they all go .7 these days , maybe it was the Chevvy that had a 6.5 ,

What ever it is it would be good.

Dodge Ram
The Cummins 6.7L Turbo Diesel engine is available in Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty pickup trucks. It offers more horsepower, more torque, and enables 2010 emissions compliance while delivering these power/torque increases.

The Dodge Ram Chassis Cab comes with a 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel-Chassis Cab as standard equipment. It can be upfitted for any kind of commercial duty from hauling lumber to emergency vehicles. Features include a High-Pressure Common Rail Fuel system, a patented Variable Geometry Turbocharger and multiple injection events per cycle for superior power delivery at all rpms with quieter operation.

Over 80% of all Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 Heavy-Duty diesel owners choose the optional 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel. Obviously, having 650 lb-ft of peak torque gives this workhorse a lot of pull.
