Been hearing this more and more, people referring to their 4wd as a 'Truck' !
Hear a lot of landcruiser & patrol owners do this but was talking to someone today who said he was 'going to get something from the truck' & he went over to his nissan xtrail .

Do 4wds fall into this category ?

Mate, you will put the forum into overload. In the past week the diesel/petrol debate, waeco/engel, Ayer's Rock climing. Can't keep up, now the truck debate!

These things need to be spread out a bit across the year :)

Cruiser for me, but who cares what people call them really.

You are onto it.
If it looks like a truck drives like a truck, then I guess that what it is.
Seems to me people buy a 4WD and expect on road handling like a sports car.
I call my Landcruisers and the F250 and the old F100 trucks, because that is what they are, even if the F250 rides more like a car.
I will call them what I please.
Don't think I would call a Niss Trial a truck though!!l

So the vehicles most people refer to as a truck that you can hire from kennards hire ( Hire trucks -- words as per there website)- AVIS truck rental are NOT trucks but vans as they can be driven i standard Car licence >?

Mine is a car, simple as that.

I would define a truck as a goods carrying vehicle (ie. designed primarily for transporting of goods [by road], but differs from a van because of separate compartments for driver and goods)
A bus is a passenger carrying vehicle (generally more than 12 passengers)
A car is a personal-use vehicle (regardless of the number of wheels driven by the transmission - you don't hear people referring to non-4WD cars as '2WDs'). Mr Harold Scrubby might like to make a distinction and think that 4WDs are inherently more dangerous than 2WDs but if you walk in front of a Holden Commodore or Subaru Outback the outcome is going to be pretty similar, likewise for a Toyota Landcruiser or a Ford Transit

To use get outmore's definition, a tractor would also fit into the definition of a car (class CA licence includes tractors and 'implements') LOL ;-)

Interestingly I recently updated the insurance and thought I would compare so got some other quotes.
Was having trouble locating my HZJ75 on their database and eventually found it listed as a truck.
here it is pasted from the NRMA the organisation we like to believe tells us the way it is.

Please select your car
Toyota Landcruiser Truck, 1992, 4.2LD
Toyota Landcruiser Truck, 1992, DUALCAB MO HZJ80 4.2LD
Toyota Landcruiser Truck, 1992, HZJ75 4.2LD

Go figure.

I wish some people would do a search, just to see how bored we get with this rubbish, but then again we can't go off topic so the same rubbish will just circulate over and over and over and over.
